Durham's man management of some of their contracted players over the last few seasons appears at best to be poor. Blackwell, Davies, Plunkett and now Claydon spring to mind, Davies, Plunkett and Claydon were all efectively banished from playing cricket at any level for Durham forcing them to seek other clubs while still having more than a year left of their contracts.

How is that anything other than poor treatment?

Slightly separate argument. I'm suggesting its ridiculously early to state that Plunkett who has played 4 championship games for Yorkshire and effective in 2 of them is a player in great form and that is all down to poor man management by Durham. I also hate it when players do their best to piss their own careers against the wall and people make excuses for them.

I'm sure there a re man management issues at most clubs but they rarely seem to be issues for players that perform well, train well, stay fit and focused and make the team their priority.

Plunkett 2 for 18 including Rogers. Top player that lad, always said so. Should still be doing the business for Durham if it wasnt for those pesky man managers

I agree and mentioned this on the current warwickshie match thread. The MO appears to be the same with each player that they are frozen out and told they have no future at the club. I thought Blackwell made them look quite foolish after his performance against Australia A last season. It is clearly all down to finance. Although i do believe Plunkett needed a fresh start at a new club and good luck to him.
I bet these actions will not have gone unnoticed in the dressing room with a few of the players thinking who is next.
I thought it was interesting that someone on this site said that there was contracts on the table for Borthwick and Stokes but they had not signed. Next seasons squad will be interesting to see come April next year.

On first change in the morning, the onus was on him to plunge the knife into Middlesex and then twist it with the help of Patterson. It took him three balls, as Rogers nicked behind, before he worked over Adam London and then made a mess of Simpson's stumps with a sharp yorker - "a delivery that can get people out" as he needlessly put it - you would not wish upon the toes of your worst enemy.
His last season at Durham was one he was keen to forget - both on and off the field, where he picked a second drink driving charge - so much so that he went down to Headingley as soon as the 2012 season ended to begin his indoor work. A stint bowling into the relatively flat Adelaide decks helped him find some rhythm and confidence. He says he still bowls the odd bad ball - not that they were on show today - but feels experience has taught him to let them go. "You can always take a wicket with the next ball" his new mantra.

Ah fuck him, 6 years ago he looked the new Darren Gough.

Now he certainly isnt in the same class as a good few of our bowlers/allrounders who no doubt dont have the drink issues.
