Just noticed Yorks have put a 15 year old seamer in their limited over squad. Is Plunkett injured or are they sick of him already?

Both are in the side, along with a 17 year old batsman making his debut as well.

Is Gibson that lad who played for the second team last year at the age of 14 or something or is it a different lad?

5 overs 1/21 for Fisher. Tremendous effort. Shame he cant have a beer after the game

Fisher's had to cancel his French GCSE tomorrow.

It's Ryan Gibson playing today. Barny Wilson is the 15 year old (at the time) wicketkeeper who played for the first team last year.

Not only do they have some youngsters, the rest of there squad are established good quality
Local lads too, bairstow, root, bresnan pyrah, gale, rashid & more.

Going back 10 years or do they have produced some top quality county & international players too, vaughan, mcgrath, blakey, sidebottom, dawson, silverwood, gough.

Yeah. Academy seems to be working well.
They have a great Academy system. The likes of Yorkshire and Lancashire regularly thrash the DCB teams at youth level.

Took my lad down to Headingley for a trial in the close season and they asked him to go back. The DCB had just that week asked him to go there so I declined the Yorkshire offer based on the travel situation but if he hadnt been selected for the DCB I would have taken him.

Great setup.

Your right Yorkshire and Lancashire are normally stronger than Durham up to u15 level as they have a much bigger pool of players. What Durham do which is very shrewd is they identify good players from Cumbria Northumberland Scotland and the odd Yorkshire reject and sign them up to play for Durham at u17 level which is the first age group you can play for a county outside the county where your school is based.
If you look at Durham record at u17 level over the past 4 or 5 years it is outstanding although they have not won it the have been beaten in the national final 3 times in the past 5 years.

Didnt know that.

I was talking to one of my mates (on the subject of Scotland) and he told me that the U14's/U15's are at Goldenacre, the George Heriots sports ground in Edinburgh soon (my old school).

Also when my lad went for one of his U11 advanced batting classes at the DCB there was a lad there who had travelled down all the way from Aberdeen. The lad and his Dad had stayed in Newcastle the night before which I thought was very keen of them.

Stokes of course was from Cumbria, pinched from under the nose of Lancashire something that they still arent overly chuffed about apparently.

Aye it is a strange set up, was explained to me at an Academy match a few yeas ago, funny enough when Stokes first started playing for the Academy when he was about 15 or 16 with a couple of other Cumbrian lads.
I also have heard the story that Lancs where not to happy when Durham snaffled Stokes.
The policy at Durham appears to be only local lads till u15, then the u17 side is supplemented with a few players from Northumberland Cumbria etc, then the best of them sign academy contracts.

Just to let you know Colonel The Bunbury England schools cricket festival is being held in Durham this year between July 21st and july 26th. I think it is u15 level but it would be a great tournament to take your son to. I have never been but have heard the standard is incredible.
