Absolutely100% this☝️. Watch the replays ! All he has to do is shout 'Leave it Luke' and he can just amble over to pick it up, wouldn't even have to jog! He can then fall on it while he gets his breath back.

I thought he looked like an accident waiting to happen when we played them. Caused panic a couple of times in their box. People are only banging on about him because he "saved" 2 pens. I'm loath to call the first a save, it was a poor pen

Yep, that's how I read it.

Our defence, at least once a game do a keystone kops routine... fancy being the goalie behind that...it hardly breeds confidence, if you don't know what your defenders are likely to do.

I don't remember him making any saves in that game you wouldn't expect any other keeper in the league to make.

I'm not saying Patto's shite, but he's an average player in one of the most important positions in the team.

We're bang in the hunt for automatics, and we're all keen for us to add some depth to the squad as well as a bit more quality to try and push on and get over the line.

When we've got our strongest 11 out he is, for me, one of the weakest links in there, and a better keeper could be the difference between automatics and play offs.

If Burnley end up top 2, then having a top quality keeper will have been a big reason why.

I'm not his biggest fan but come on he did well against Derby pretty sure he made really good saves in a lot of games recently, I've seen keepers I rate higher make mistakes this season such as cooper he's fine for where we are, cut out sloppy defensive mistakes and get a striker and that will be the difference.

How do you know he did?

I know Pickford would have been through him to claim that. And that’s the kind of keeper that I want, and is a dying breed.

I’m not blaming O’Nien, he’s had two years playing in front of Patterson and knows he isn’t coming off his line so he’s stretched to try and make a decisive action and hasn’t got it wide or far enough cos he’s on the stretch.

And I’m not really bashing Patterson, he is what he is and he is an excellent young, repeat, young keeper.

As someone who did play at a “decent level” And I’ve looked back I’d want my keeper to come and try to help me out in that situation even if I get a knee in my back.

He’s a good shot stopper. But ask yourself in those pressure filled last ten minutes how many times has he came for a cross or claimed a loose ball to relieve the pressure? His kicking gets derided but he doesn’t dominate his box and relies on his centre backs to deal with things, and that’s fine but when do they get to rely on him to cut the cord and get off his f***ing line!?

I don't know if he did or did not, it was another way of looking at it, not a fact.

Its always the same isn't it. i didn't see Johansen or Trafford make any better or crucial saves than Patto against Norwich which won us the points, against Burnley in fact on Saturday that was a blinding save he tipped around the post. The issue is if its a keeper you don't rate its a 'save he should make' however if it was a Trafford or Johanssen it would be a blinder.

Johansson - 10.5 goals prevented
Trafford - 8.65
Patterson - -0.04

I just don't think he would or any keeper would. There wasn't just O'nien there was other players. He was never going to get to that ball and get anything meaningful on it. Protecting his goal and expecting his defence to challenge and block was the option every keeper would have took in that situation imo.

Don't agree with that at all. Decision making is very good. You are judging him against perfection. The Plymoith goal is a case in point. Once the ball hits the net then people deem the decision to have been the wrong one. He made the decision almost every keeper would make on that one and stayed at home reasonably expecting his defenders to deal with it. They didnt and should have.

His weakness with his feet might be a weakness but again its massively overplayed. Hes expected to play it short allowing us to play around the press. The fact that some fans might 'shit themselves' every time he does it is more to do with them than him. He's always expected to hit the widest player either side with his longer hits and overhits some which seems to bring out bulging veins in the foreheads of many.

It comes down to fans who in my view judge goalkeepers to a ridiculous level. I dont think we have ever conceded a goal where at least a few people haven't slagged him off for even their second yesterday :lol: Hes a good keeper and I guarantee if we have any keeper in the division between our sticks we would have the same goalkeeping experts pointing out faults because they dont claim every cross, stop every shot and play out from the back like Pirlo.
