Wasn't directly fault for either of the goals yesterday BUT if he's braver and comes forward instead of sideways he maybe gets to the ball ahead of their 1st.
For the 2nd goal, he has to come off his line to rush the goalscorer and narrow the angle.
Pattos lack of leaving his line definitely made both goals easier.

Was his passing like? I reckon easy in the top half. People love saying it’s crap though
@10 Trenches Deep you do loads of tactical stuff so might have the answer to this. Where does Patterson come in the league amongst keepers for collection of crosses and distribution? Nowhere near as bad as he is made out in this thread in my opinion like.

We don’tmy
I do have some stuff on this....but it's at home and in fledgling status (busy travelling the land visiting rellies atm). My gut is he's alright in these things compared to many. He's like the 4th or 5th best keeper in the league. He's improved in collecting crosses. Remember how Wycombe bullied him under the high ball in the league in Div 1? Then they did lots of training on his defending his space claiming balls. He has gotten better at this. I've footage of both.

My biggest gripe with him, is he loves being rooted to his line far too much. He's not really got it in his nature to be a domineering keeper like Schmeichel but he does need to be strapped to a bench next to Malcolm McDowell have his eyes pinned open and forced to watch 9 hours of Oliver Khan laying out Centre Forwards to a death metal soundtrack, because he's pretty poor at claiming balls sometimes. He's improved on corners, but he really need the aattitude of butchering and smothering absolutely anything within 8 yards from his goal line and he doesn't. He sometimes starts to go (like Swansea) and then doubts himself and stops and consequently has to face having point blank saves.

That equalising goal yesterday...i'd rather he buried himself towards the ball and risked a pen (which would rarely be awarded) rather than allow the shot. Think about it...which action has the higher odds of preventing a goal? I think it's criminal for a keeper to choose to allow a shot 7 yards out. You kill the ball at all costs...you're close enough to do so.

I'd argue that the outfield players completely failing to deal with the ball into the box and the subsequent ping-ponging around our six yard box were more to blame for their second goal than Patto.

Hence not directly at fault, but he needs to rush the player as the above poster has said

I've watched the goal and I'm not sure that there's much opportunity for Patto to do much to close down the striker, being as there's two of them and a couple of our defenders in between. Whisper it quietly, but, I think that the problem with these scrambled goals we keep conceding might be Mepham. In open play, he's a very good defender, but, he gets underneath the ball on crosses quite a lot leaving his man free and himself stranded in no man's land. This isn't a criticism of Mepham - every player has strengths and weaknesses, we can't expect our players to be perfect - just an observation.

Well Mepham should have ushered the ball out, hoofed it clear or headed it behind for a corner at the start of the attack

He is just soft, loads of goals we concede is because he doesn’t command his area and wont come for simple balls. He is okay as a back up but isnt a first choice keeper.

I like you as a marra but is there any of our players you like

You Slate 09 now on patto back

He hasnt improved in 18 months for me.
Ultimately this for me. Makes some great saves but was hoping his distribution and box commanding would improve and it just hasn't for me either. Still think he's fine for this level though and I wouldn't say replacing is a priority over other positions

Seems a bit too laid back for a keeper. Needs to command his area, clatter a few centre forwards and be more vocal. No point in even commenting on his distribution, if it hasn't improved a bit now it's never going to happen.

Reactions: PS
For me he’s over weight and just not good enough. He’s the weak link in my opinion. I’ll take the pelters but he’s clearly not commanding his area and his punts up field don’t make it up field. Every where else we look ok.
Said at the beginning of the season, we won't be promoted with him in the side...Can you imagine if we were, what would happen next season with him still being No1????
