Patrick Roberts to Birmingham compendium

Maybe. That ability to get the ball under and skip past someone is not very common.
It certainly eludes some of our current wide players.

The lads we have now are all faster, mainly taller, and stronger than Roberts.

None of them have the ball skill or trickery that Roberts has.

I get it. Physique is ultra important in this league. But I still think he’d have gotten minutes and played well if he had stayed.

Class player in the right setup when he's got a good 10 alongside to play off. I would have liked us to try him in the premier league, he'd be starting this weekend if we still had him.

At 28, Roberts still has a lot to offer a Championship team like Birmingham who are trying to get promoted.
I think transfermarket valuation of €5m isn’t far off to be honest.
I think we’d be happy to sell him for £4-5m this window.
3 goals/5 assists so far this season is a decent return.
It seems like their fans want him permanently & the owners have the money, so £5m please.
Good luck Patrick & thanks for the last 4 years.

And? Do you not think he was class with diallo around him? It was some of the best football i have ever seen Sunderland play, including this season
It was at championship, he’s doing well again at championship level. He won’t ever be a premier level player. You think Reggie would’ve let him leave if he felt he could do what is being asked at this level?. Very good player for us at league one and championship, like you say played some lovely stuff under mogga for six months or so when we had the likes of amad around. But we thank him for those days levels below where we are and wish him every success but he would be just a wage like the rest of those we are looking to shift out from those league one/championship days.
When in league one they spent £15million on a forward. I don't think we should give him away for nothing.... £2-3million is a fair fee I think.
Especially considering we can trigger an extension on his deal. Birmingham toss money around like it’s nowt if he’s that important to him cough up the coin.

I dont think he is levels below. Would definitley have done better than rigg in there. And nobody knows the situation with regis. He mightve wanted him to stay, but paddy wanted to move. Opinions,eh!

Can’t see it, you really think if Reggie had told him your in my plans here and fight for a place he’d have chosen to go back to the championship? After years of fighting to get back there. He is like, he’s a decent championship top ten player but he is miles away from being premier league levels. Rigg has been asked to do a job as a 18? Year old while we were short on numbers. Reggie trusts him to do that job too something I don’t think he’d have in paddy at this level. Forever grateful for what he did but I think people are guilty of looking back with rose tinted specs on some players. There were times paddy looked short of top ten championship levels during his time here. His actual stats were never that good here and as much as I loved watching him there were times at the Sol I wanted to tear my hair out with frustration watching him. Hope he proves me wrong but I’d be shocked if he plays more than a handful of games at this level the rest of his career.

Truth be told, i'll be gutted when Paddy leaves.

At some of our lowest ever ebbs he was part of a small group of players that would make it worth your entrance fee. Watching Amad and Paddy run amok under Mowbray was the most entertaining football i've seen since Reid. He helped change the game this summer at Wembley too. When he came on momentum started to shift as he carried the ball deeper into Sheff Utd's half than Riggy could and helped change the mentality of the game.

A player blessed with with exceptional ball carrying skills, but sadly not blessed with the mentality or consistency to make it at the highest level (I still think he could do a job off the bench mind).

Sadly this is true.

Keiffer Moore bailed him out after he lost possession in the closing moments of the playoff final.

He’s been Brum’s most creative player this season, and helped us get to where we are now, but don’t think he fits into our team anymore. Brum need to cough up for him, he’s way better than most of the players they’ve thrown money at.

Against inferior opponents m8, but I agree tremendous partnership, mind I reckon I’d look ok stumbling along if I had amad to pass to.

Loved watching PR and hopes he carries on in the same vein at Birmingham, differing views of him on here but 2 moments of class stand out for me, his late goal at Sheff Wed on the L1 play off semi...and his millimetre perfect ball for Mayenda to equalise in the play off final against Sheffield Utd, that through ball was absolutely immaculate 👌

The pass to him from ELF was pretty special too mind...

You can be in plans ,but not play all the time. Paddy wanted to be playing. So he left
