Patrick Roberts to Birmingham compendium

Wish Pat all the best, was a great player for us on the journey back but never gets the recignition

Of course he does. As soon as a wide player (from either side) drops a clanger some one will post Robert’s has been unfairly treated and starts a demand for his return.

Trouble is the game is not like how people see it.
If the instructions were to sit on the wing, don’t cross half way line there is a chance.
We don’t play this way now.
Example. Mundle was supposed to had had a poor game at the weekend. Similar to Adingra the week before.
Both out tremendous effort into tracking back picking up players in the box and allowing the defenders space to push up the field without exposure.
It is why Hume has done so well and why people are scratching heads as to why a right back is playing there or as to why cirkin came on to play the exact role at the weekend.
Robert’s does not have this in his game. I appreciate why people like him but he is a restricted footballer in the way in which we now play and set up.
Same can be said of Clarke. As soon as he was asked to do a similar role at his new club.

Aye we had 4 fullbacks playing against Palace. Obviously Hume Nordi right and Reinildho Cirkin left. Just to see the game out on left and Hume because he’s our best “available” option on the right due to injuries.

That said I remember when we played Fulham in the FA Cup a few years back and he was the only one who looked pre quality.

Shame he’s not been given a chance even as back-up but he wasted enough of his career not playing already.
So you have to go back a few years to remember 1 good game.....says it all

It is one of the best part of Robert's game. His defensive play was brilliant last season, and i recall regis saying its why he is one of the 1st on teamsheet. Worked his bollocks off. Its amazing how people can't see this

Watching Birmingham Paddy does have that in his game , he does a good deal of defensive work and keeps shape very well. Having said that he's not the lad to choose for that principal role and wouldnt be happy doing it . Bird in a gilded cage .
Youre right that Clarke doesnt have it .

I liked Roberts. He probably wouldn't fit our system now and the data would probably say he isn't good enough but he excited me and got me out of my seat
And that’s important but imo he lost the ball too often and wasn’t good enough defensively to be a prem player, for us anyway. Wish him all the best for Brum though.

He's obviously a better winger than either Rigg or Hume, who've both played there throughout the course of the season.
This isnt fifa. Hume is put there for a specific job and system and hes fare more effective at it than Roberts would be at his role.

For about 2 seconds until he ran into somebody or had a shot with marshmallow feet power.
