Patrick Roberts to Birmingham compendium

I like Roberts and really enjoyed watching him for the most part over the years he was here, but let's be honest, he'a 28 and has never really played at a level higher than the Championship.

There's a reason for that. Not many players these days get to that age and make the amount of appearances he has without getting a move to a higher level if good enough.

He'd be nowhere near getting minutes here, even with our current options away at AFCON.

The romanticising over him needs to stop at this point.

I wouldn't recall Roberts by any means, he's playing where he should be. Traore is getting better but still isn't producing much. I'm optimistic about Talbi for the future, but pessimistic about Adingra. Umdicided about Mundle, is it a level too high or does he just need to find form ?

I do think the wings are currently weak areas.
 
I'd have him back as like 5th choice or something to be fair. Liked Roberts.

He's miles behind the likes of Traore, Talbi, Adingra, Le Fee out wide, and then Mayenda looked promising last time out.

(Every chance I've missed someone mind as our squad is git class now)
 
I like the lad, was decent for us in the Championship and I’d say he’s found his level there. Hope he signs on a permanent and gets plenty of playing time with Birmingham and does well.
 
Cant be arsed to go back through the op's posts but id put money on that they spent the best part of 2 years saying roberts is shite
 
What could go wrong with recalling a player that struggled to peform against championship tier players and using him against Premier League players instead?

I like Roberts but anyone who thinks we need him should be sent to a mental home.
 
Massive fan of Roberts, early in season I thought we missed him or would’ve been no worse off. I don’t think he has the step up in him.
Anyone underestimating his value last season though is mad
 
Personally i would have kept him around the 1st half of the season as back up to Traore & with AFCON in mind, then look at selling him at end of this window when we'd hopefully improved the position.
Not sure why anyone would want him back now though when Mayenda has come back into the fold, Traore will be back soon & it's one of the positions we're more most likely to strengthen this window.
 
Roberts is a fantastic Championship player but he simply does not have the pace required for the Premier League. He's also a much better #10 than he is a winger.
