Patrick Roberts to Birmingham compendium

Feels like he's worth a lot more than £1m, especially considering we've got the option to extend his contract.
Depends how you look at it, we have to take up the option (does he then get a bonus/signing on fee) we then have to sell him to someone what happens if Birmingham decide against it or he gets a long term injury we end up paying his wages or having to find a different club. Is it really worth the risk / hassle of all that and the club have already stated they are actively trimming the squad and he isn't going to be part of it. It can also be a bit of a thank you from the club for his contributions to promotion, its a win win really. Good luck to the lad.

Good luck to the lad. Was an excellent signing for us, and I’m sure he’ll do well for Birmingham too

I know it’s inevitable with what we’re looking to achieve, but it’s still sad seeing some of these lads leave. Thanks for helping us out of the 3rd division and back to the prem.

Hope he goes on to have a brilliant career

1m is low. Presumably there will be some add ons but primarily I suspect this is a sort of thanks for your contribution based valuation allowing him to make a move he seems to be happy with. For a player of Pats technical ability it’s practically a free transfer. Will always have a place amongst my favourite players to watch.

I'd imagine the fee reflects how big his wage is, so they need the low transfer fee to balance that. Could be the case for alot of our fringe players who are under EPL contracts

I suspect the club are being fair to a good servant who we got for nothing and also that there'll be various add ons negotiated in the deal.

At the end of the day, you would think we have persuaded these players by giving them certain assurances on leaving the club and we're acting honourably even if we lose out on a million or two.
