Particularly agree with point 2 from @Keawyeds similar to when a bunch of 13 year olds having had one can sing about Rowell. He could be standing right next to them and they wouldn't have a clue. It's by no means the end of the world and I'm not kicking off about it, just find it slightly irritating.
 
Signing anti IRA songs isn't per se anti Irish since it refers to an illegal terrorist organisation, but the point is what relevance does it have at a football match 23 years after the good friday agreement? :confused:

Rangers famine song, telling the entire Irish diaspora in Britain "the famines over, why don't you go home" is absolutely the textbook definition of racism though and any club caught signing that should be fined and/or banned.

I really don’t see the problem with it though personally, why stop signing about a club legend just because they aren’t born in his era? Do you think Liverpool fans are going to stop singing about gerrard any time soon? Let them be man.

He does have a point though. Why sing about something you know little about? Maybe enjoy it, but if you weren't privy to it at the time it's not necessarily one for you. I don't sing it because I never saw the great man kick a ball, although I know about his prowess

Have I told them to stop? All I said was it was a minor frustration, best part of 40 years since he played so a bit different to Gerrard.

A load of nonsense to me that mate. I never seen him play and I will sing it? We didn’t see him play football so shouldn’t celebrate what he done for our club? Do you really never sing about anything at the match unless you witnessed it? I don’t think a single United fan witnessed the Munich air disaster so they should stop singing songs that celebrated them?

Interesting point. I agree it should be celebrated, but they need to properly know who they're singing about.
It's a bit like back in the day with kids wearing Korn or Slipknot hoodies having only actually heard 1 song.

Yeah i see that but surely the football equivalent to that would be lads who have only been to 1 Sunderland game singing it? I reckon a very good portion of the people who haven’t seen rowell play and sing his name will be going to match regular or certainly more than the once. There will be examples of this for Nearly every club in the country, some things/players deserve to be celebrated for doing something for the club that is still very much here and affecting their lives today, Just the way I see it.
 
My highlight was seeing SAFC fans tv and fans react pass each other.

The latter was a few rows behind me with his cap balanced perfectly on the back of his white napper.

Oh aye seen that jam sarny bloke as well.

Last time I sung anything at a football match, was at Gigg Lane when I joined in with the aged parent to celebrate promotion with endless renditions of ‘We’re on our way’. I gained maturity over the years - or just felt silly as a grown man singing football chants. I temporarily and very, very briefly upgraded to Kazoo for one game and then I don’t think I did anything but shout encouragement, occasional abuse or nonsensical multi-syllabic bollocks if we scored.

Song? Nah.

I think it can be canny to get the atmosphere going. But I really dislike the trend of singing abusive stuff to lads who played for us and scored goals for us.
Booing them if they’re actually playing is ok as it’s trying to put them off and help us win the game. Pathetic if they’re not playing.
(Possible exception would be Micheal Chopra!)

So let’s say I heard a racist or homophobic comment and took offence, does that mean I shouldn’t go to football because I’m ‘overly-sensitive’ or should I do the decent thing and report it and call it out? Just asking for future reference etc?
