Parkinson slams the salary cap and the other L1 clubs

When the league don’t listen to Parky, one of the most erudite and articulate ambassadors world football has, then you know things are f*cked

It's a form of "football socialism", "I can't aspire to that, so you can't have it". Basic maths, ignoring debt etc. We get 30k/match with a "spend" of £30/head (ticket /prog/food/drinks/corporate) = £900k/match x 23 (ignore cups)= £20m+, take off VAT £17m (ignoring TV money and shirt sales etc). We won't be able to spend that on players (salary restrictions), absolute shite of a proposal that's been voted through.
I have no time for Gordon Taylor, but, on this I hope he rips the L1 clubs a new arsehole!! With those that voted it in dividing the legal costs between them.

Socialism wouldn't be cap the top it would be support the bottom.

So every club gets a certain amount of money partly subsidised by the others if they can't make it themselves then anything extra earned by the top clubs is spent. That's socialism. And not the worst idea to stop smaller clubs going under

I think it ridiculous that we should not be allowed to take on a better standard of player because of the salary cap. There are 30000 people who want this against Accringtons 2500. It’s a blatant denial of our human rights.
Exactly mate.
I get the feeling it’s the perfect excuse now if we miss out of anyone or don’t sign anyone “salary cap scuppered the deal”.
Already been used mate. PP has gone on record saying we’ve lost two players because of the salary cap.
This is what I don't get about the fuss - just offer players the equivalent of an entire years salary as a promotion bonus if we want to over pay.
I thought this was what WR was thinking about when he referred to being ways around the cap salary.

Its a pile of wank mind. Clubs relying on 1500/2000 fans through the door bound to the same wage structure as a team that gets 30,000. If it needed to be applied it had to be % of turnover instead of this farce.

I think they turned us down at this stage because they have possibilities of championship teams signing them, not because of the cap per se. We won’t see many highly rated free agents move until it’s clear they will have to accept playing in league one but we should have some advantage at that point.

Is is not a restriction of trade a la Bosman? Take it to the European court of Huma....... ohhh.... hang on we've been Faraged!

Bosman’s case was to do with him being out of contract with a Belgian club who blocked him from signing with a French club. As an EU citizen he had freedom of movement between EU countries so his case was that Liege couldn’t stop him from signing for Dunkirk once his contract with them had expired. So, different and, yeah, Brexit.

In other news, manager of club to be disadvantage by salary cap introduction says salary cap shouldn’t be introduced. Everyone goes with their self-interest on both sides

Firstly, you've exaggerated Accrington's crowd. Secondly, you've reduced our crowd. Thirdly, you're spot on. The whole point is that sides in whatever league should reach whatever league by good management, good recruitment, good youth policy and having the finance to move up a division. As it stands, Leagues 1 and 2 are distancing themselves from the Premier League and Championship.
I think for it to stand legally surely the championship and prem should also have a cap imposed on them. Imagine last season the likes of Bournemouth demanding a similar wage cap to MAN United or Luton with Leeds? It makes no sense and reeks of jealousy - bigger clubs should be allowed to pay more.

Tbh I thought he may be using the cap as an excuse for not getting these players in. But players will be sitting on the fence taking their time weighing up their opinions.

Ridiculous! Try telling Man City they can spend same wages as Burnley with very little notice. This will not stop teams going to the wall either. How did teams like Salford get into the league and then decide to vote on a cap that means Bradford etc can’t spend more on wages than them despite having higher revenue....mental

The cap is happening because the EFL needs to get cost controls in place before asking for a handout. It won’t get a handout without them. That’s why this has happened all of a sudden. If there’d been no COVID there’d be no salary cap
