Parkinson slams the salary cap and the other L1 clubs

I’m convinced this whole salary cap is in direct contravention of UK competition law.

Rather than ensure that clubs are not overspending to create artificial advantages, we now have larger clubs asset bases totally hamstrung to create an advantage smaller clubs otherwise wouldn’t have enjoyed.

By its very nature it’s anti-competitive.

I get the feeling it’s the perfect excuse now if we miss out of anyone or don’t sign anyone “salary cap scuppered the deal”.

Could and will be challenged in court by a club with balls like we used to have

Listened to the posh owners podcast and he mentioned you can remove players from a squad which in turn removes them from the salary cap. Wonder if they will do this with McGeady.

You do not lose 'the best team' each season, history shows this is not the reality, Leeds, Southampton, both Sheffield teams as well as ourselves have struggled.
One of the problems with the new salary cap is it only applies to 2 divisions in isolation.
EFL have created a problem where a non league team can sign players on contracts at a higher salary level than both League 1 and 2 clubs
Another issue is a drain on talent, suddenly even non league football and the SFL could be more rewarding than Leagues 1 and 2.
His point was that the best 2 teams are promoted every season so it's not like a PSG situation in France where one team is winning the league every season and nobody else can compete with them.

Could we lure players with the offer of a massive bonus upon promotion ?
The only thing we need is to get out of this tin pot league and never fall so low again, typical of our luck for this to happen while we are down here.
This is what I don't get about the fuss - just offer players the equivalent of an entire years salary as a promotion bonus if we want to over pay.

If they want a true level playing field they need to have all the clubs in the same geographical location so big city clubs don't have a bigger pull for players. A ridiculous notion I know but. .....

Give me something more than that... I know you're right. There are very few clubs in leagues 1 and 2 who think they can be top flight, hence the vote to distance themselves from the top 2 divisions. A lot of clubs in league 1 and 2 have found that going up a division kills them, it's not the case for us, Ipswich, Portsmouth...
The sooner we get out of this tinpot shit pit the better . It’s a disgrace we are down here (with all due respect ) rubbing shoulders with these shitty arse clubs like Accrington Stanley
And to add to my rant , Accrington can’t even address the main priority required to be a football club .

have an actual fully functioning football pitch to play on .

f***ing shocking

Thanks for confirming my D in English was well earned and not due to any error in an algorithm, even though I suspect Rick Parry has some involvement with Ofqual.
@Carrick18 is perfectly correct and is owed an apology.
EFL should do the decent thing withdraw the cap.

It's a form of "football socialism", "I can't aspire to that, so you can't have it". Basic maths, ignoring debt etc. We get 30k/match with a "spend" of £30/head (ticket /prog/food/drinks/corporate) = £900k/match x 23 (ignore cups)= £20m+, take off VAT £17m (ignoring TV money and shirt sales etc). We won't be able to spend that on players (salary restrictions), absolute shite of a proposal that's been voted through.
I have no time for Gordon Taylor, but, on this I hope he rips the L1 clubs a new arsehole!! With those that voted it in dividing the legal costs between them.
Our average ticket price is about a tenner a head

Peterboro chairman on SSN saying it was a good thing and needed. Suprised at that, thought he'd be wanting to splash the cash. I think we should just fuck it off pay what we want and gamble on getting promoted. There are no points deductions only a fine. Imagine if we don't bring players in now because of it then the PFA win the case and it's scrapped. We could have brought players in.
Macanthony is a twat. Moans like fuck that teams can't afford to finish a season, calling them small time etc. Then votes for a salary cap.

Parkinson is upset at the thought of actually having to prove he can get the best out of a squad that can only be paid as much as everyone else.

The cap will actually show who is the best coach with the best tactics. We have the best training ground already, so we have an advantage over those who train in a shit-hole.

Took a while before anyone stuck their head above the parapet. For what it's worth I agree with your reasoning and I'd add that the extra money that we make which can't be spent on over 21 salaries can be used to sign the best youngsters under 21 and employ staff who can identify and coach them correctly.

Of course Parky just wants to be able to sign more of the type he's already signed. There's no future whatsoever in a manager or owner like the ones we have as everything is short term.

I have no idea, but if it's anything like the CAS, it can probably be written off for at least a season.

do you mean the salary cap would stand for the season or that it could be delayed for a season? What I mean is we are still in a transfer window so there will be no point if any decision won’t be made until October

I don't think it can be implemented until it's gone through arbitration and agreed with the PFA. I can't see it surviving in its current form, as the PFA will want to get the best for its members. Natural justice suggests that it can't be backdated to the EFL meetings, as this might be seriously prejudicial to any player signing a contract between now and a final agreement. What's urgently needed is some clarity as the the effective date of implementation.

Exactly, it’s affecting our transfer business. We need clarity ASAP and I feel the EFL members will delay this to restrict us from recruitment.
