Pakistan v England, 2nd test

I still don't understand why people don't have the confidence in Broad's batting that they do in Bresnan's. I really think he could bat at 7 if needed.

Bit of a bugger for him not to have a chance to tee off after lunch thanks to those bloody chuckers, but a lead is a lead.

Averaging a test 50 since his big knock at Lords. Strauss can't be doing much better than half that.

Nice to see the number 10 stick around for a while. Invaluable 13. ;-)

That is nigh on his batting average though.

Swann has an average of double that and bats at 9 if you think Jimmy is a number 10.

Anderson is a number 11 (one of the better ones but a number 11 all the same)

And do you not think Swann would bat higher if we didn't have so much depth? Of course he would. I personally think it's great that we have people who can bat all the down to 9. With the number 10 being competant. Take a look at some of the best bowlers in the past/currently. Gillespie (helped massively with a 201*), Singh, Steyn, Warne they all have an average between 15 and 20. Anderson is in that bracket. The only thing Anderson is missing is a 'score' which the others have. Perhaps this is a sign of consistency with the bat?

Monty!!!

Anderson is nowhere near the class of Singh or Warne with the bat. Good god. The big score is missing because he has about two shots!

Todays batting averages are 5 licks higher than 10 years which is why a good test batsman would have an average of 45 these days whereas the benchmark of previous years was 40

Swann in effect averages about 19 in old money which is a test number 9

Is it just me that can't stand listening to Henry Blofeld?

His voice is the most grating, irritating thing I've heard since in Tom & Jerry, where Tom digs his claws into the side of a metal ship while sliding down into the sea.

Good partnership for Pakistan, England still on top though as they have been pretty much right through the match. Early wickets tomorrow would do the job just nicely, Pakistan have a fragile tail end in a total contrast to England's.

Pakistan will be looking to get another 50 or so from this partnership and then if the rest get another 50 between them we will be right up against it.

I think we will struggle to win this test.
