Totally agree mateAndrew Flintoff.
An excellent 18 months between 2004-2005 but regularly unfit and flattered to deceive. Stats don't mean everything but they go a long way in cricket and 3 5-fers and 5 100's from about 80 tests is pretty average. A poor and unprofessional captain as well.
Aye, Norbert Phillip. Remember him missing a full set from two yards in the 1981 Nat West Semi FinalHe quite rightly had his commitment questioned as he lazed around the Chelmsford pitch, and laughed at when he occasionally shouted "Piss off" to some of the crowd. He singlehandedly lost matches for Essex. Nobby Phillip was twice the player Pringle ever was.
Ricky Ponting was a great batsman and his innings to save the 3rd Test in 2005 was magnificent. I always felt, however, that the press (but not himself) made him out to be Bradmanesque. He definitely had a temperament from time to time that would cost him, and as a captain that really showed. It contributed to him losing 3 Ashes series as a captain.

149 a pieceAway at Derbyshire, defending a tiny score. Last ball. He was crying, after the Essex attack had fought so hard to stay in the game. Liverpool fan, mind, so my sympathy reduced when I found that out.
Recognised as a very good captain, not sure I've ever heard anyone talk about his batting as great. Had that one outrageous tour of Australia and might have gone on to do a lot better if it wasn't for his knee. For me he's a slightly better James Vince, looks great, didn't make the big scores.Michael Vaughan
Good player for England but he gets made out to be a great he wasn’t
Constantly getting bowled, his average shows where abouts he was

Nobody will top that.
Sounds like YJB.
Vaughan was a fair to good top order batsman, mostly rated for his captaincy

Ian Bell was a brilliantly gifted batsman, and he did get better at stepping up to the plate when it mattered later on in his career, a hell of a lot of runs were scored in low pressure situations though where Strauss, Cook, Trott, KP, Colly had already done the hard yards.
We’ll agree to disagree thenStill over rated though
In every aspect
Don’t agree that’s one of the biggest myths in cricket
We’ll agree to disagree then
It does, give me Athertons 7728 runs over Bell’s 7727 every day though, lot of cheap runs in Bells total. We will but I think his record speaks for itself

He was, a quality player, a joy to watch, who also had the luxury of being able to boost his record thanks to having arguably the strongest top 5 England has ever had to do the hard yards before he came in.Nah. No chance.Bell was quality
One of the best ashes series performances ever in 2013, quality player

He was never the same batsman when he was given the captaincy but between 2002-2003 he was absolutely top class. We were getting battered again in Australia and he was playing McGrath and Warne with absolute ease. He never reached those heights again and his lack of consistency overall will see him go down as a good test batsman rather than a great one, but he was fantastic to watch in full flow.
People's views will be clouded by his excellent captaincy.
Can see your point with this. He improved in this aspect as time went on but the majority of his career seemed to see him lacking in pressure situations.
It’s amazing how far a myth carries that people just accept it
22-23 test 100s but all scored with no pressure
I give up
No one said that all were scored with no pressure did they?
2013 he was excellent but that was the exception rather than the norm.
I’ve never said all Bell’s runs were luxury runs, a few thousand were though, this is opposed to someone like Atherton who wouldn’t know what a luxury run was.Very harsh that like
So Michael Clarke’s runs for Oz were all luxury runs too then? He batted 5
