Don't see it often, happened today with Hafeez running down the middle of the strip to block the ball being thrown to run him out.

I thought it was harsh personally. I feel that he was well within his rights to run where he ran. I think obstruction would have been more like if he stopped a fielder from getting to the ball or similar.

Didn't alter his run that much, fair enough if he ran across the pitch,it was just a shit throw that hit him

Running down the middle of the track is also part of Fair and Unfair play ie Law 42 - the same law as obstructing the field.

11. Damaging the pitch - area to be protected

(a) It is incumbent on all players to avoid unnecessary damage to the pitch. A player will be deemed to be causing avoidable damage if either umpire considers that his presence on the pitch is without reasonable cause.
It is unfair to cause deliberate damage to the pitch.
(b) An area of the pitch, to be referred to as ‘the protected area’, is defined as that area contained within a rectangle bounded at each end by imaginary lines parallel to the popping creases and 5 ft/1.52 m front of each, and on the sides by imaginary lines, one each side of the imaginary line joining the centres of the two middle stumps, each parallel to it and 1 ft/30.48 cm from it.

MCC have published an explanation on there website about this incident

He changed his line of running from off the track to between the wickets.
Law 42 and the ICC clarification in 2011

"For the avoidance of doubt, if an umpire feels that a batsman, in running between the wickets, has significantly changed his direction without probable cause and thereby obstructed a fielder’s attempt to effect a run out, the batsman should, on appeal, be given out, obstructing the field. It shall not be relevant whether a run out would have occurred or not.

If the change of direction involves the batsman crossing the pitch, Law 42.14 shall also apply-"
ie . batsman damaging the pitch although tbf to Hafeez this would have merited a warning in the first instance and dismissal for a second offence by ant batsman in that innings

It's a new rule. If you change your path to block the ball hitting the stumps when running, you're out.

The rule only applies to International matches as it was made by ICC .
The Laws of Cricket in this respect remain unchanged.

Law 37 applies

Anybody ever been timed out ?

Lad who used to play for Houghton got timed out in a game I was playing in years ago. Had a ding dong with his lass the night before. Was batting number 6 and as the 3rd wicket fell his phone went. Went into the car park to shout down the phone for a bit. Couple of quick wickets fell.

Umpires timed him out.

Thinking back fuck knows why no-body else was padded up!

Lad was given timed out playing for Crook on their finals day. Was in the huff because he was batting bown the order and was slow getting to the wicket

Lad was given out obstructing the field last game of the season last year for Norton against Eppleton.
Norton were playing out for a draw and were 7 wickets down with 2 overs left. Cocky youngun came in and started giving verbals to Eppleton. Called for a quick single to wind a fielder up but didn't run. Fielder didn't no so picked the ball up and through it at the stumps. Was going to hit the stumps and he was 2 yards out his crease. Trying to be a clever sod he hit the ball so it wouldn't hit his stumps. We appealed and after umpires conferred he was given out.
Wasn't so cocky walking off the field with his bottom lip quivering and everybody taking the piss out of him.

Think he learn't a few valuable lessons : -
1. You need to be a very good player to take the piss out of others.
2. He who laughs last laughs longest.
3. You get the piss took even more when you walk off bubbling.

Must say one of the funniest things I've seen in recent years (although not for him).

I particularly like point 3 :-)

Zubin Surkari of Canada was dismissed 'Obstructing the field' on 3 August 2011, in a 2011 ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Afghanistan.

Sanjam Regmi of Nepal was dismissed 'Obstructing the field' on 9 September 2012 in a 2012 ICC World Cricket League Division Four match against Denmark.

Len Hutton was the first man given out this way in Test cricket, for an incident that occurred at The Oval during the fifth test of South Africa's tour of England in 1951.

then Mohinder Armanath in 1989 v Sri Lanka

In proper cricket mate. Its only happened four times. Much easier to do it in lesser games.

The only one I could rememember before yesterdays was Inzimam's, and tbf he got out in some weird manners that guy.

Here it is with one that david hussey. got away with. Whats the difference?
