Don't see it often, happened today with Hafeez running down the middle of the strip to block the ball being thrown to run him out.
I thought it was harsh personally. I feel that he was well within his rights to run where he ran. I think obstruction would have been more like if he stopped a fielder from getting to the ball or similar.
Always told to do it when learning the game
It's a new rule. If you change your path to block the ball hitting the stumps when running, you're out.

They seem to clamp down on it nowadays.
Really?
Only 4 guys have ever been out obstructing the field.

Anybody ever been timed out ?
Lad was given out obstructing the field last game of the season last year for Norton against Eppleton.
Norton were playing out for a draw and were 7 wickets down with 2 overs left. Cocky youngun came in and started giving verbals to Eppleton. Called for a quick single to wind a fielder up but didn't run. Fielder didn't no so picked the ball up and through it at the stumps. Was going to hit the stumps and he was 2 yards out his crease. Trying to be a clever sod he hit the ball so it wouldn't hit his stumps. We appealed and after umpires conferred he was given out.
Wasn't so cocky walking off the field with his bottom lip quivering and everybody taking the piss out of him.
Think he learn't a few valuable lessons : -
1. You need to be a very good player to take the piss out of others.
2. He who laughs last laughs longest.
3. You get the piss took even more when you walk off bubbling.
Must say one of the funniest things I've seen in recent years (although not for him).
