Our fans

Youre genuinely relentless. Sunderland fans have displayed incredible loyalty bearing in mind what we've gone through. We're far from fickle. In terms of numbers the vast, vast majority of opposition fans admire the crowds we have turning up to games.

Look at the crowds from the Premier League 99-2003 then look at how they drastically dropped when we went down, then look at the ten years from 2007-17 in the PL then look at how much they dropped when we went into lower leagues.

I don't need to look. I know what crowds we were getting. The club was falling apart. It looked like administration was inevitable. We were relegated twice on the bounce. We were then bought out by a chancer using our own cash. That we managed to average 30k pretty much throughout our time in league 1 despite experiencing the clubs 4 lowest positions in over 140 years was absolutely incredible.

But you think it's fickle. It's absolutely ridiculous man.

But it is fickle. Why only go during the good times and not support the club during the really bad times

Fans sounded class again. Mag songs aren’t my preference ideally, but they’re just as bad with anti Sunderland songs despite being a division (and 2 until recently) above us, which if anything reflects worse on them. I know this to be the case because some of my black and white mates complain about it all the time and ask why the fuck they do it.

When it is going well yes. When it isnt we dont

That’s absolute bollocks given the crowds and away followings that we had despite 4 years in League 1 without ever being a good running away with promotion side. Have you also got stats to backup your claims about away followings in the last Championship season? Because just off the top of my head some awaydays towards the back end of that terrible season: Millwall in March was 2k+ sell out, Derby in March/April I recall we filled the usual away corner at their place, Leeds in April we filled it and the atmosphere from us was tremendous. You remind me of that WHED character that used to post on here years ago, followed Sunderland home and away yet seemed to take pleasure in spouting misery and negativity about everything and generally putting SAFC and it’s support down. Strange.

27,635 which is massively down from when we in the Premier League (and lets face it loads of home games there were far less than what the club were announcing as the crowd). Which just backs up my point people only bother when it is going well.

Take a look at comments by other clubs fans. They label as quiet, arrogant, fickle just to name a few.

Which is a drop from of an average of 41,287 the season before that but don't let the facts get in the way of a good story
You're making yourself look a right tit mate.

See there you go 30k average in league 1 99.9% think it's tremendous. You think it's fickle. Th

You're just a young lad still as well. You're saying lads and lasses who have done way more seasons than you who snapped at the time of the double relegation are fickle. Give over man.

Look at the crowds leeds got in league 1. Ours held up brilliantly.

Seriously mate? You don't expect crowds to fall after years of utter dog shit? Do you think Man U would be flying in fans from Ireland and Scandinivia still after years of failure?
Clearly crowds fall off after complete dirge for years, 30k plus average 4 years in the third tier tells you all you need to know. We've got plenty of knackers among our support but our numbers would be envied by all but the elite in the circumstances.

It seems he listens too much to bitter jealous opposition fans on twitter and facebook. I'd love to know who he's comparing us with.

Just had a quick check.
In the Championship 2017 season we had the fourth average attendance, 27635. The teams above us, Wolves, Leeds and Villa were either promoted or involved in the play offs, We finished absolutely rock bottom, winning three home games.
Absolutely magnificent support in ‘thin’ times.
We have a support envied by most, whichever league we are in.

I really think we are in top ten of any supporters in the World (not absolute numbers) but if you take into account the 'thinness' of any success over the past 50 years.

We do travel in numbers very well, seemed to me that there was at least a few hundred on the pre season tours of Hong Kong, Canada and South Korea 😇

I was at all three and thought, these people are quite crazy (myself included of course 🥵 .... I traveled each time from Australia).

Last seasons League 1 playoff Final 50k+ support was also obviously fantastic.

...... everywhere we go etc 😂

There are more examples but to shoot down your point you made. If I am happy in spouting misery about SAFC then I simply wouldnt go.

I asked for stats not a photo from one match. You got a photo from the Burton away match the one a few days after that midweek Villa game, where we filled the terrace again and our section in the seats? It’s easy to pick the odd match. Why a supporter wants to or seems to take pleasure in knockin his own is beyond me.

I will try and get a programme from that era as I'm sure they had the away numbers printed in them

There today. Fantastic atmosphere by our fans. Why the fuck does someone always criticise minor things. Hope the person who was stretchered off in the stands is o.k.
That song isn't a minor thing. I'll be at Wigan hoping it isn't sung. When the player asks supporters not to sing surely people must recognize something is wrong.
