In my world where we speak English, aye. Whether or not he is slaughtered by stupid people, or people with an agenda like the press, is irrelevant to whether he's fit to play in the sandbox with Gary Medel and Tom Cleverley (who clearly are international class ).

Tom Cleverly routinely gets slaughtered by the press and the support. If being called shit every time he plays for England is considered international class then Cattermole is international class. If however international class means more than that then he isn't.

Getting a bit carried away after a handful of games. If he can keep this up, absolutely. But I literally have no idea how many times I've said that now.
What a load of crap. "Handful"? Really?

I've always publicly backed Cattermole from the beginning when he was the better of the Cana/Cattermole partnership, saying then he had the potential to be an England player.

That said, although he is enjoying his best run of form for us, I'm not sure his hustling type of game is suited to the slower pace international football is played at. His passing, while it can be excellent, is prone to be poor for spells and I think a poor game could see his confidence dented from the inevitable bashing he'd get in the press.

For him, I hope he gets recognized in this squad. Selfishly i'd prefer it if he played another decent spell until the next internationals, improved his passing consistently and was then given the recognition.

Interesting you should point that out, because surely I'm not the only person who thinks the pace we play at is completely unacceptable? The only thing that will change that is someone in the team driving things forward.

And World Cup "star" Gary Medel?.........

I actually don't think Cleverley is "international class", or more accurately "England 2014 class", but I do think Cattermole is currently far better than him.

No idea about Medel, I've never been to Chile. Of course Cleverly isn't international class, otherwise he wouldn't be abused on and off the pitch. He's not the yardstick by which to measure whether Cattermole is ready for England.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the pace we play at. I think the patient possession based game is making us stronger than we've been in a long time and will only get better if we can add more quality

We definitely play at a slower pace under Poyet then what we have for a long time, and that's probably helping Cattermole, if anything. My comment was more comparing the speed of the Premiership V International football, than SAFC V England.

You think Poyets brand of football (slow build up) is completely unacceptable?

I'm talking about England mate.

So was mine.

England.

So would he shine for England or one of the top nations?

Cattermole would not shine for England. He's not technically good enough to shine at that level. I'm sure you already understood that when people refer to International Class they are referring to players that excel at that level.
David Healy?

How many International class players do England have ?

Medel was relegated with Cardiff - he's shite, but he's international class.
The question is quite simple: is Cattermole's current form (assuming it continues) good enough to get him in the current England squad. The answer to that question is an emphatical yes. So, if he's still playing as well at Christmas, and others have not seriously stepped up, he should be called up and then he is clearly "England class" and "international class". QED ;)

Let's get this straight here. The term international class is completely dependent on the international team you play for.

Shola is good enough for Nigeria and could be considered international class there. However in England he isn't international class ie he isn't good enough for the national team/international football.

He probably could represent our national team.

I feel that this is sign of the poor quality of domestic talent as opposed to Lee being outstanding. He doesn't, sadly, have enough about him to succeed against the games brightest talents.

Very few.

And I for one honestly believe that where Cattermole lacks in quality he makes up in passion and effort. When was the last time you watched an England player and thought that?

Cattermole is good enough for Northern Ireland!

We always have this debate over "world class" and "international class" - world class IMHO means a player who would get into any international squad in the world and would be at least discussed when someone is trying to name a current world XI. International class would mean, if he were playing at a world cup finals tournament, could he hold his own? Not necessarily best player on the field but not outclassed either.
