O'Nien

Ok . It led to a corner which led to the goal . It was really poor
Ok so not rigg( think it was him) who then gave a corner away from that corner or le fee who shanked that corner out with a mishit to give the next corner away that they scored from or whoever lost the scorer, but him who made a mistake about 4 phases back.

All the little back handed comments, the twists about how he should never get a game, the comments about O’Nein cultists. Even at best people just can’t stop themselves from adding “he’s a limited player” or some such nonsense to give him praise.

Seems to me some people aren’t happy with just criticising the lad but they want everyone else to sing from their hymsheet as well.

Despite all that he continues to do good work for Sunderland, whether it’s on the pitch or recording a video for someone who’s suffered a brain injury or soared a few words for someone who’s lost his legs for diabetes (these are two little actions which meant the world to two friends of mine)

Echo most on here who say they would like to see Luke coach here.

Nobody is denying he’s a good bloke and could be a great coach.

He’s just not good enough for the Premier.

We defend two corners because Onien did something from 40 yards from his own goal that led to the keeper heading over the bar . But correct two corners . Nothing to see
Not le fee then who shanked it out of play when he went to clear it under no pressure? We have to go back to O’Nien nd get the blame put on him

I honestly think we should have an 'O9 bitching thread' and anyone who posts any bitching elsewhere gets a ban.
All these divvies can wank each other off furiously in one place and leave proper fans to have grown up conversations.
I'm f***ing tired of it now, and to be honest it's getting totally disrespectful to one of the most loyal and committed players in decades at our club.

If it wasn’t for the mistake, he’d have been a MoM contender. For the rest of the game he was brilliant.
You could argue coming back from an error like that is bigger than a flawless game mentally

I was gutted reading the match thread like when does getting on people's backs help anything?, look when it happens In other jobs, do those people feel happy and motivated to perform to their best? I'm not advocating blind optimism as that can be just as damaging..but a bit of loyalty wouldn't go amiss

Right. You would think the lad has more than earned it, but apparently not for some people.

He's a club legend.

And yes - that phrase is overused. But he actually is one.

He clearly is
It's a cross purpose conversation.

The people who are still saying "he's not good enough" have had to move their goalposts for that basically to mean "he's not good enough for our first team".

In the summer, these same people were saying he'd be an embarrassment, any game with him starting would be lost heavily, he's way too small for the Premier League, if we have to rely on him at all we may as well give up and accept relegation now etc. etc. etc.

That's what they meant by not good enough then, but they've changed the terms, because he's 100% as a starter and has contributed as the good squad player that people who actually understand football always knew he would be. Not least because he was a f***ing standout player in the Championship for many years - above the level, in that league, of Hume, Ballard, Cirkin and Mepham (who had 60+ PL appearances).

It was all there before their eyes, but they don't want to see it.

What they've done is called a "motte and bailey argument" and people in philosophy, law etc. are trained to call it out. But they won't see it.
It was also a very poor clearance by Rigg from the first corner, but aye , its easier just to blame O'nien.

His back pass was ridiculous, but conceding a goal from a corner can’t be blamed on the person who gave it away. That’s bollocks. There’s always an opportunity to clear it. Do your job, as Roy Keane would say.
