O'Nien

Not having a go at you it’s just the first post in here that I seen like this. The problem is who are you going to get who is better then him whilst also happy to be 4/5th choice centre half who can also fill in at full back whilst also being such a happy positive force around the club. Remember we have only got to the point we have had to play him twice this season and a reminder we won both those games.

Yeah, it's a fair point. Upon reflection I can't disagree. He's essentially a 4th/5th choice CB.

As I said and always have done, I really like Luke and he's a great person to have around the club, but I was being unfair.

My issue was more so frustration with the injury situation as opposed to Luke himself.

When I saw the team sheet I thought 'Luke don't do anything daft' but he did. However, the way he overcame that mistake and played well for the remainder of the game showed the character of the man. Ant team should be proud to have a player like him.

Yes, but a load of testosterone-addled meatheads need to kick fuck out of Luke to justify their embarassing “if he plays, we won’t get 10 points, he will be dominated by every Premier League side” takes from the summer.

It’s sad that they would rather tear down a club legend that embrace him as someone who has risen with us. I don’t understand either. Maybe it’s because he’s smaller, maybe because he plays with a smile on his face, I don’t know. Some people just don’t like him.

Sad.

Just imagine living in a world where nobody is allowed to mistake a mistake.

Bet these people are booing their own kids playing football in the park and slagging them off for giving away a goal.

But mistakes at this level will be analysed significantly. I’d never criticise a bairn doing anything related to sport but that’s a ridiculous comparison . ONien is a really well remunerated professional footballer competing at almost elite level . He made a really bad error compounded by a goal . At Leeds he sensibly played within himself but as the referee’s governing body have said he should have been penalised and a penalty awarded. At Port Vale he made a really poor error that led to a goal . He’s a brilliant pro and an example to the kids you mention but he’s a problem to us as this level

He’s fifth choice!

Perhaps even sixth!

He made a mistake that cost a goal, yes, but he also played really well for the other 98 minutes and we beat the mags.

I guarantee you that any other fifth choice player comes in and does that they just celebrated for doing a job.

But people on here are irrational about him, they want to punch him. You anarl.

By all means "analyse" the mistake - I'm sure that's what Luke is doing himself along with the coaching staff but the amount of abuse he got on the matchday thread and since isn't justified,

He just seems to get more criticism than any other player when he makes a mistake.

His error at port vale didn't lead to a goal

Please don’t say you’re blaming the goal at port vale on his back because you’re just looking to dig him out if so

Sunday was an aboration. Luke made a mistake, but recovered well from it. However, the mistake he made is one that weve not seen him make for us previously. (somebody will remember one but hes played nearly 300games so the sentiment is broadly correct). It was just a genuine well intended fuck up, He shouldnt be hung out to dry for that because it could have happened to anybody. He not first choice but has proven he is capable and reliable squad player, As has been mentioned he's 4th or 5th choice centre back. Remember also he hasnt yet made the mistake we were all told he would make week in week out (fouls/penalties from manhandling on set pieces). Luke O Nien positives massively outweigh the negatives, Hes a manager (And fans) dream. Has an outstanding attitude, loves the club,, gets the fans and has a back story. Whats not to love

We'll keep Luke . He's English so meets quota . If he was foreign i think he'd be gone as good a lad as he is .
Is it just me or does it look like his standing foot just slide just a fraction as he "cleared" the ball . To his credit that its not been mentioned but he certainly examines his boot 2-3 times in the aftermath .

Yes there’s a fair bit of discussion about it in this thread. He definitely slipped slightly as he planted his right foot down

Thought he had . 👍🏻
I mean if thats the case haway man whats the issue , its a slip .
Keep him , English , team leader , borderline good enough in an emergency we hope doesnt arise , wont complain if it doesnt and wont be on a fortune .

Just watching the highlights - Luke was the smallest bloke in the box for crosses/corners and still winning heading duels, he didn't shy away but kept his composure and showed a hell of a lot of back-bone.

Top shithousery comeback by Luke🤣

Nee body gets celebrated for that man . The lack of honesty around his performance is irrational. From you anarl.
