He slows the play down constantly. I think Johnson is aiming for fast, attacking football. In which case there's no place Maguire. McGeady can play due to his outstanding ability but Maguire is a passenger too often.
He's a bit owa fond of the 360° slow pirouette at times. At his best he can be a match winner, but he's running ter fat & he needs the threat of starvation ter keep him keen....

My 10p worth

Thought we looked more creative, willing to get the ball into dangerous areas.
Delivery into the box looked a bit better but still not 100%
Diamond had a decent game.
Scowen looks more comfortable playing that role.
Keeper looks decent for his first game.

Still slow at the back and slow in midfield. Huge lack of pace and athleticism in our team showed by their big CM running the show at times.
Confidence might improve getting back to winning ways but important to remember the opposition were a league below us.
Think it was good to see it out, gone in front a lot recently and not held on.

Presumably, that's two mostly first choice sides he's put out though?

I think I'm sick of watching us play tbh as I'll always give a manager a chance, I know it probably doesn't look like that here but I just hoped he'd change the composition of the midfield from the off, which he hasn't which is a bit frustrating.

Anyway LJ is off the mark, let's hope we can follow it up at the weekend.
He’s only been in the job 4 days. He’s still learning about his players. I’m sure we’ll see some changes in the coming weeks.

I'm quite please with the result and performance today.

We look better in a 4-3-3, though I'd certainly like Willis and Hume in that defence.

Jack Diamond was positive, caused their fullback loads of problems with his pace. He should be either starting game or coming on with 30 minutes to go to turn the screw on the opposition now, no more being left out of the squad.

Grigg is looking far more interested, his hold up play and movement already looks better (who would have guessed that playing the ball on the ground suited his game more).

We were a lot more positive in general, getting more bodies into the box and mixing up our play a bit so we weren't as predictable.

Tin hat maybe with this last one, but I think Scowen is going to thrive under Johnson. Power needs to be replaced by someone with power though. A physical player who can drive forward with the ball would compliment that team a lot.

I think we'll be watching much better football once Johnson gets them playing his way. We'll battle away over the next month when the games come quickly, but we'll start to look good at the business end of the season.

Defenders will always look vulnerable, strikers won’t get any chances to score and wingers won’t get the right ball with which to create whilst we persist with such a slow and static midfield. That’s the crux of the problem. Get Gooch in there once fit as a no. 10, McGeady and diamond wide, 2 holding and get them to move the bloody ball faster and we might create some issues. Scowen, power and grant (and Dobson) are as mentally slow as could be, takes them 5-6 touches to play a pass and 5-6 passes to move the ball side to side. Desperate for some new CMs in January as a priority.
Good post. I think playing a number 10 be it Gooch, ideally, Maguire or have a look at Neil. Playing 3 CM's is too pedestrian.

He has been a match winner in the past but that is becoming a distant memory.

Important that we got a win tonight, irrespective of the competition/opposition, as it will help the players believe in what the new manager wants to do.

some positive signs in how we are trying to play but obviously there are limitations in the personnel, that’s not something we weren’t already well aware of.

still a tendency to get overly cautious when we are one up, that will hopefully change in time.

job done, focus on Saturday, going to be a big test.
My thoughts exactly, its going to take a bit of time to change the Ross and Parky mindset of playing the ball sideways, or backwards before considering a "risky" forward ball, onwards and upwards!

He needs to shape up or ship out. It's up to him. Having his mate McGeady back in the fold might not help him. I suspect they might be a bad influence on one another.

Think Gooch is vital to us

Look to see a lad called Han-Noah Messengo coming. Played 25 times for City last season under Johnson, only once this year. 19 yo French midfielder.

I said the same on Saturday. I already think he is one of our best players.
