Lets examine this much talked about (by mags) so called golden period of skunk fc between 1992 and 2005.

Money was no object, and so one would expect, a few trophies and at least euro qualification every season would occur ? Errrr, not quite.

Lets not forget in 91/92, this huge club took until the second last game of that season to avoid relegation to tier 3.

92/93 saw the spending begin and Keegans team gained promotion as champions, not a big surprise given their financial muscle.

93/94 tbf was fairly unbelievable as they finished 3rd in their first season back in the top tier since relegation in 88/89. Big signings like Quasimodo helped, and lets not forget, Hall/Shepherd's wealth rivalled or swamped that of all the so called big boys.

94/95 ? An early ko in the uefa cup to bilbao, no Lc or fa cup, and a 6th placed finish meaning no europe next season. How could that happen given their big money signings . 6th ffs.

95/96 saw them blow the title, win no cups, but they did qualify for europe.

96/97 saw KK pack in early January but dogleash steadied the ship and they finished second again. Again, no cups and knocked out by monaco in uefa cup. This time, finishing second meant champs league qualification which they cocked up in the qualification stage to dynamo zagreb.

97/98 ? Finished 13th, just four points off relegation. Yes 13th. They did manage an fa cup final appearance courtesy of a piss easy run but were crushed by Arsenal.

98/99 - finished 13th again, 5 points off relegation. Another piss easy run to an fa cup final and another embarrassing defeat.

99/00 - oh dear. Finished 11th BELOW 7th placed "minnow" Safc. How could that be with Englands top striker Alan Shearer upfront ? Well, a blip, wont happen again. No cups. Sbr answered call to save them from relegation after nasty Ruud upset "big al".

00/01. Another 11th placed finish, 4 places below "little old Safc. No cups.

02/03 and 03/04 saw 3rd and 5th place under sbr, euro qualification but no cups.

04/05 and a 14th placed , yes 14th placed finish. No cups and an igniminious end to sbr's reign.

Well, if that is a golden age, I can see fans of Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, Leeds, Ipswich, Forest, Derby, Villa, Arsenal, Spurs and Man City having a right good laugh.

The mags will say "but we played great footy (well for the 3 seasons in the PL under kk maybe, ) and played in europe", but no trophies and some bottom half of the table finishes are a pathetic return on the vast amounts of money paid out for sheerah, ferdinand, ginola, asprilla, peacock, batty, barton etc.

And, they will never ever mention (they wont even know, as its a FACT and they dont deal in FACTS) that their longest consecutive run in the top tier is a paltry 33 seasons compared to our 58 which to my knowledge is only bettered by 2 clubs at this present time.

Dont let this mag myth of golden years become fact as its very very far from that.

FTBM now and forever.

The Mags fan base has to be the most boring bunch of knackers this side of Chris De Burgh's fanclub.
I love a bit football crack on with fans of any club, mags included, but by and large they are a bunch of boring bastards.

Like the bloke in the pub who everyone tries to avoid as he's such a miserable fucker. No matter what anyone says, he's worse off than them and loves to let everyone know about it.

Tbf, most are clueless, and many actually are post 92ers who won't have heard of Willie McFaul, Jim iley, Joe harvey, pop Robson, Wyn davies or Jackie Sinclair.
Wolfwanker is a typical mag who lives his whole life thru nufc, and will spin a handful of good placed finishes in to a "golden era" ignoring the very poor placed finishes, embarrassing cup defeats to the likes of Luton, Bilbao, Zagreb, Notts Forest, and, the fact that they were the Chelsea of the time spending a fortune on players and, managers and winning the square root of fuck all.
Embarrassing crack from an absolute whopper, in fact I'd go as far to say he's the biggest ever embarrassing mag ever to infest this board and there's been plenty of spunktrumpet rivals.

If your counting fairs cup we'll count the EFL trophy as no one has ever pulled out of that. Also we were world champs before you were formed you Ballbag. Do you discount all of recent winners and they only had 20 team league against 70's and 80's winners against 22 and more!! FFS have a word!
And we won the charity shield also

The worst thing about them is they tend to be pretty good craic until you touch a nerve and then they fly off the handle. Snide *****, nearly all of them. That fucker Midds who used to get on here was an archetypal mag. Snide as fuck.

I’m sure it had been mentioned before, but if Shepherd and Hall had not bailed out and pocketed millions of Ashley’s money, the Mags would have folded due to massive debts and no assets.
Their limited “successful glory years” were built on financial base of sand.

Tbf, I didn't know that. When ?

Look at all the upset Hall, Shepherd and esp Fletcher caused as soon as a bit of "success" was achieved with bonds, platinum clubs etc. Some of the loyalest of their fans were treated shamefully and iirc, it lead to some back tracking.
Showed a lack of class and appreciation imho.

Hall and Shepherd were praised for getting the Mags into Europe, but they were only in it for the money. You are right, they had no respect for the club or the genuine supporters.

Post 1992ers ?
So a "new" Newcastle fan would be a fan for 30 years by now.
If they jumped on the the 92ers band wagon to be glory hunters and are still fans, well fair play to them tbh.
I reckon they would have heard of the players you mentioned if they have been fans for 30 years.
BTW..
Jim Iley played for Newcastle from 1962-69
Pop Robson 1962-71
Wyn Davies 1966-71
Jackie Sinclair 1969-89
Willie McFaul 1966-75
Most fans of a club who have stuck by them for 30 years would have at some time researched their history.

I don't understand how slagging off a fan for being a fan for 30 years of a club that has won nothing is bad ?

No one is criticising a fan for supporting a club that has won nothing. On that example you are in the same bracket as fans of Sunderland, Leyton Orient, Hartlepool and many other clubs.

However unlike every other club that has won nothing in 30 years, other fans realise that they have no right to expect success. Other fans realise that having a stable club is something to cherish.
Newcastle fans of the last 30 years however seem to think the club are underperforming (which history shows is not the case. In the 90s you overperformed and nearly went under as a result). They seem to think that the club is special (it's no more special than similar sized clubs).

I dont wish ill on any club, but Newcastle need a wakeup call like many other big clubs have had. Maybe then you might realise that Mike Ashley isn't the bad guy you all make him out to be, just because he won't run his business the way the fans expect.
