If a team goes down on 42pts, that's anomalous and has only happened once in the last 20 seasons.
Put it this way, a team gets 45pts every season. 4 wins away, 10 wins at home, 3 draws. Same number of goals scored, same number of goals conceded. They can flit about the league table because of other teams. It's completely, entirely out of their hands except in the fixtures they fulfill.

Went to a few games, but couldn't afford to go regularly.

Listen mate, kindly fuck off to your mag boards. Your club exists to be laughed at by the general football supporting population. No one outside of Newcastle thinks you are a big club, you are a joke of a club.

You yourself lost all credibility when you said Rafa was loved because he got it right on the pitch

Oh and 4 posts in the last 50 minutes? This board is your life.

personally i'd say paying back money loaned to it on low interest if thats the case wasnt taking money out.
paying himself or others a massive dividend out of profits would be. or maybe taking club income like parachute payments out.
No dividends paid. Charmley received around 260k, so not exorbitant. I'd love to dig deeper and see details of the sponsorship with SD. The PDF I found, you couldn't even search. All to make life tough for analysts.
I've heard that the decision was made a while before the announcement too. But your position appears to be that Ashley moved solely for the cash. Despite being on a big wedge in Newcastle, despite the comforts of home, despite working in the Premier League. He jacked us in as soon as a big money off came in. Which begs the questions, why didn't he just go to China as soon as he left Real Madrid?

Also, given Ashley has a history of parsimony, has a history of undermining managers, has a history of lying, has a history of trying to operate on the cheap, has a history of lacking any kind of ambition for the club, is it so much of a stretch to believe that Benitez left because he wasn't given sufficient control over the club and couldn't see any progress under the owner?
I presume you mean solely for the cash with reference to Rafa. Maybe or he was genuinely excited about a new challenge. Perhaps the offer wasn't on the table at the time or, more likely he wanted to be closer to home for his daughters as they approached exams. No doubt if Rafa was given a huge war chest and free reign over signings (he wasn't at Liverpool and stamped his feet) he may still be there. But you miss the point that there was no deadline, no intention to stay as his mind was made up before Easter.

Journalist told me that the feeling amongst them (media) was that they "thought Benitez would smooth it and get it done by deadline day. So did he. Didn't even tell him if he had money to spend. No way to treat a manager"
He also suggested that £Carr started to wield some influence."

ok say its 38 points not 42. anomalous or not, you've "progressed" apparently but got relegated. progression is really only measured against the other teams. you might think your team is better but if all the other teams have improved more you really havent.

You seem to be fixating on winning the league or being relegated. Something where league position matters above all else. I'm talking (as I've always been) about those stodgy midtable positions where league position doesn't matter a great deal. 11th to 16th are all much of a muchness. So ending the season with more points than you had last time around, playing better football, scoring more goals, or conceding fewer. These are the measures of progress or decline.

Look, the point is, Newcastle United were improving under the previous manager, year on year. We're now regressing under the new manager.

Considering he relgated you in his first year an improvement wasn't difficult(with all that cash).

100% Fact.

What they want is a "name".

Rafael could have took them down to where we are and they still would have fawned over him because he won things elsewhere.

It fits in with their view they are a World Super Club in the same mould as Real Madrid, Barcelona etc.

Not sure Chris Hughton counts as a name and he was very popular and is still.

I'm convinced Lampard will be next through the door for these exact reasons

The fawning never happened with Houghton. Would be a similar situation if Jones takes over from Bruce but he'll never be seen as a big enough name.

I hope so. He's shite 🤣🤣🤣

They'd soon be calling him. Be a canny way to end his career. Same with Gerrard.

I just think it's a lazy stereotype IMO. Most people I know would like to see Eddie Howe after Bruce. Is he a name?

I mean what's the definition of a name, because Steve Bruce is a well known manager. He's just utter shit. Like most fans, how we feel about our manager is based on the job they do in the main.

There were loads of Sunderland fans were against Parkinson being given the job. Why? Because you felt he wasn't up to it. No difference with how we feel about Bruce.

I'm not talking about Bruce. Everyone knows he's shit. I'm talking about the constant fawning over Rafa. The Chronic running Mighty Rafa stories as its the anniversary of him joining you. Its been 2 years and still going on like fannies over a manager who relegated you and would have bankrupted you had he got his way. When he didn't and despite filling you with bollocks about how much he loved you he manufacturered a move to China and had a visa lined up. He's a f***ing charlatan.

The Chronic have got fuck all else to write about. On a personal level he wouldn't be my choice if Bruce were to go. But I'm sure he will be here a good while yet so it's a moot point.

Most Newcastle fans were surprised & disappointed he was sacked especially when Alan Pardew was brought in
I do wish Sunderland fans would quit with the "Rafa was our savior" and could do no wrong nonsense

The whole point of a league table is its placings. With the Premier league your also looking at aprrox £1million increase in prize money for each place. They don't award prize money in the same way for points, so that shows what the league themselves think of difference between points and placings. At the end of the day clubs are formed to be as high in the table as they can be not to beat points tally each year if it doesnt get them higher in the league. Its akin to people arguing over possession or XG stats. They're all very well but what matters in league placings, winning trophies and winning leagues.
