Those who think it was wrong might want to talk to the likes of Tommy Sorensen who came out and castigated the club for treatment of someone they valued highly during their time at the club.

Is he a Lads fan as well? Followed him on twitter for a while and he seemed to put more stuff on about Man Utd than anything else.

The family are from the Manchester area but both him and his older brother are Sunderland fans. He was offered a 2.5 year deal with the mags. We don't even offer that sort of deal for our first teamers.
Anyone know why Cooke was let go?

Seemed like a spiteful move at the time but maybe there’s more to it.

John Cooke took 3 pay cuts over 3 years (understandable given our demise really) and then when the pandemic struck was asked to reapply for his job. He's never had a job interview before but agreed to go along. One prominent member of the board didn't turn up (he was abroad on holiday) to his interview. Eventually the interview went ahead, no feedback, no reply, 3 weeks later Cooke contacted them and asked what was happening to be told he wasn't suitable for the role (that he's had for about 25 years) and that was that.

Utterly abysmal if true! Any idea who or what dept it was who told him he wasn’t suitable for his old
Job

Disgrace but still reckon John Cooke will have Safc at heart end of day it’s the current owners who have shit on him not the history of the club
But can’t blame his son for not wanting to stay with Safc good luck to the lad

I don't agree with the sacking of his father but if he's just starting out, he shouldn't be making decisions out of spite.

Can't be much of a Sunderland fan. Our last lot of owners were utter shite, but your club is your club at the end of the day.

Was Cooke's son a great player? I don't know, never seen him play. I always say if someone's a Sunderland fan at heart he would never play for the mags. If he's good enough, and he wants to leave he'll get other offers. Doesn't have to go there.

And yet some blame his lad for spouting off.

That's a disgrace if true.

I'm not convinced it's going to get any better either. I've a mate that's the youth team coach at the Cobblers and he said he was sat just listening to Speakman going on and on about what Lee Johnson should be doing and criticising subs etc. You will probably all call bullshit on that but hey ho.
He’s only here until summer.

Surprised the club haven’t tried to sort things with John seeing as the new owner is coming in. Seems a silly thing to let lie and would be good PR to get him back in. Surely just rehire him.

the current lot have ran out of fucks to give.
‘Cos the kit man was made redundant and his son who has never played a professional game of football has followed him?

jesus, you’d think we sacked Alex Ferguson the way people go on about John Cooke and his son.

Plenty more important things to sort at the club.

i think it is symbolic of what has happened at the club over the last couple of years. The piss taking party ended, apparently, whereas the kit manhas been praised by everyone interviewed associated with the club over the last 30 odd yrs he has been at the club.
Quinn, Phillips, Reid et al came out to defend Cooke and in my opinion you have 2 options, stand with those who genuinely care about the club or those who came in to make a quick buck, you sir/ma’am are in the latter.
