Look at the team that beat Sours (3-1-when Bent missed two penalties), arguably the best SAFC SOL performance outside the 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea under Reidy and ask “why did it just disintegrate?”.

Yeah it was a good performance that. Could have been 5 or 6 easy. Just looking at the team on statcat and ferdinand, da silva, meyler and Campbell all started and they weren’t really regulars at the time. Bruce seemed to get carried away every transfer window though so we never had any real continuity.

Brighton in the cup. He actually had the nerve to blame the strikers for us losing the game even though he dropped all of them :lol:

Yeah mate. Around that era the squad included Mignolet, Henderson, Bent, Malbranque, Zenden etc. and instead of building a team around decent players it just dissolved and struggle became the norm again. Typical SAFC.

I recall him saying that with the transfer funds we gave him he was now shopping at Harrods. Unfortunately we were stuck with a Poundland potato head as manager.
