They did but at the time Mark Hughes was very highly rated after his work at Blackburn and City fans, United links aside, liked him. Here we have a manager they all hate with the second worst premier league record ever in terms of win percentage.

Who's got the worst one?

Really interesting Twitter thread on the distinction between PIF and the Saudi state.

Spoiler alert, it's not.

Do the premier league know this
What are the legal assurances they obtained
Are these from an independent part of the Saudi legal system ??
Thought so

Bruce is 3rd in this list frpm April 2021 of managers with over 12 games, with Potter 2nd bottom and Parker the worst. Potter will have a higher percentage now though and Bruce a bit lower. I think Potter is around 26.5% now but I don't know what Bruce is now.

12 games is a small sample.
I saw something a while back that where he was bottom or second bottom with managers with over 250 games or over 300 games. Some top names down the bottom of that list i saw, Bruce, Bryan Robson, Pulis, Warnock

I'm no expert so if anyone knows more than me please feel free to add or put me right - but I believe "loss of face" is a huge thing in Arabic cultures?

For the Crown Prince to be rejected by the PL must have been a real embarrassment.

Possibly explaining the 1 billion to force it through no matter what the financial cost.?
I imagine the 1 bill had something to do with the world Cup being in quatar too, this ended up being a dirty little bonus.
I'm not an expert on TV rights and access mind.

Tough one this for Sunderland fans, do you want Newcastle relegated this season ? normally a no brainer but if they do they will spend big to come back and almost certainly be the strongest squad in the championship next season,
a championship that will include Sunderland who will be wanting promotion, if Newcastle are in the PL it will be easier for Sunderland to go up,

so the question is do you want Newcastle relegated this season ?

Poor Brucie. In fairness he has managed some shite clubs. The Newcastle squad put together by Benitez hurts my eyes, it's so shite. What does anyone expect him to do with it?

He performed miracles last season, and I'm not surprised the Arabs would like to keep him, particularly if they are planning on running the club on a tight budget.

The other option, wor Graeme Jones, has a comparably shite management record but at a lower level.

I just noticed the list I linked in my last post was current managers. So is missing as he's on 19.5% with just 27 wins from 138 games and that's mainly due to the 5.74% with Sunderland as he only won 2 of his 37 games! has 26.2% with 61 wins from 232 games. has 24.1% with 27 wins from 112 games.

Will we be looking for promotion if we go up this season? I think it'll be too soon personally.

Of course because it would be a brilliant laugh.

We aren't getting promoted next season anyway.

No chance we'd be able to make a promotion push next season, so bone saw united in the championship would be hilarious
