NUFC/Sportwashing

But that's what I'm saying, allow Amnesty International to speak, if I had my way I'd have them regularly invited to liaise with the Trust. If I were True Faith I'd have something in the fanzine regularly to educate readers on what's going on over there, and everywhere else, to be honest.

Saudis aren't going to rapidly become a fair and balanced society (if ever, and if that's a possibility for any country, really). So lets not pretend otherwise.
Aside from that fact it doesn't change the ownership of the club it would be the end of those fanzines as fans would attack them as your fambase is now effectively an online army of bots protecting the ownership.

Who's hacked your account? This is all decent stuff. Only teasing-- keep up the pressure. We can stamp as much as we want but it will just be dismissed as Mackems mouthing off. Only Mags fans themselves can do something about the sportswashing.
Speaking for myself, it's very hard to hear criticism of NUFC without succumbing to the urge to defend it. There's a good piece in the Atheltic from a Man City fan. Speaks to how he compartmentalises the two issues. Support the club, anything but for the owners. If fans can get their head around that quickly, all the better.

If the criticism was directed more accurately, it'd quicken that compartmentalism, but that's a lot to ask of other people. Why should they try and make anything easier for Newcastle fans?

The Saudis are a vile state and should not get to bask in reflected praise, or glory by pumping money into a community institution. But who's really to blame for allowing it? The government, the PL, the new owners and even Mike Ashley. So if the criticism from other fans and the media were directed at those groups it'd be easier for Newcastle fans to resist the urge to leap to the clubs' defence. But like I said, it's easier to splash a picture of a daft lad in a headscarf on the back page, under a headline declaring something like 'Newcastle fans warm welcome for the murderers of Khashoggi'. That's better copy.

Unfortunately it misdirects the conversation. PL, Government shouldn't have allowed this takeover. And they're the ones who should be held accountable.

Will Yasir be in the gallowgate having a pint with the fans with his shart urn ??
We should never forget the ways these outrageously biased, ignorant, sycophantic local media pricks have gone on regarding this takeover, an absolute disgrace to humanity and their profession. Do they have no respect? #khashoggiwasajournalist

They have absolutely no spine and their hypocrisy is sickening. Love to bump into a few of them....

This kind of thing isn't helpful. Because that's not my timeline. I've seen and spoken directly to loads who're torn, loads who have made peace with having two thoughts in their heads. Club = good, Saudis = bad.

I'd prefer Newcastle to achieve success from legitimate in house means.
However, so corrupt is the game of football today and has been for a fair time, I'm now at the stage where, what will be will be. If we are in a position to buy and get among the elite clubs then fine.

The playing field is not level and we've just became another pat of the lopsidedness of that playing field, potentially. Assuming we will be bankrolled.
I know that most of the fans of any club would be more than happy to be in the position we are in.
You'll get your small bunch of fans that'll resist, just like you do with anything controversial.

The main issue here is massive jealousy, in my honest opinion.
You are the Mag Fishpaste and I claim my five pounds

It's just assumed because you were desperate to get rid of Ashley but appear delirious that these horrendous lot have bought the club - I don't mean you but the Jawdie Nashun.
Aye, that's the assumption, and it's not wholly accurate.

It's delirium that met Ashley's departure, delirium at the potential seismic shift that the bank balance can bring to the club and either conflict or apathy at who's name is on the bank balance.

Ha, ha that reads just like 'im not a racist but....'.

Really?
So you're basically calling me a racist?
You carry on.
you all or most of you want to justify your support of murderers by pointing out that other bad things happen in the world.

No. I want to justify my support of Newcastle United. The politics of it is something I can't change. Only those at the top can change them.
You should by any reasonable standard be appalled that your club has been bought by a murderer.
There's nothing I can do about it, no matter how I feel on the owners.
No one is saying you are lepers just that you appear to have no morals when it comes to your club.
Back to morals.
Yep we all have them until we don't...depending on the situation at hand.

What a wanker! His Excellence is a close friend to a man who sent a hit squad to murder Jamal Kasshoggi and has locked up journalists and tortured them. And here is Kevin Downie acting like a giddy schoolgirl who is about to meet Ed Sheeran.
Not being funny, but isn't that the way you're supposed to refer to royalty, even if they're royalty from a brutal regime?

Because, take that honorific away and all Downie has said is "Yasir Al-Rumayyan is hoping to be in attendance at St James’ Park on Sunday. Newcastle’s new non-exec Chairman & governor of PIF is planning to watch the first match under the new regime".

I've no idea but it's bound to be popular at present.

After all it's not every day of the week that our local rivals become the most hated club in the country - literally overnight.

Over the years I've often fretted about the state of SAFC but have been comforted by the fact that no matter how far we fall, NUFC* will somehow contrive to fall even further.

You've outdone yourselves this time.
You have no idea what thread has had the most replies since August 8th? No idea at all? You don't think it might be this one? Funny how you call a photograph thread that has 12k replies since 2014 as 'truly remarkable', but 16k replies in a month, not noteworthy... I wonder how many replies the July NUFC had? Or the June NUFC thread had? I bet they weren't noteworthy either...

I think you are exaggerating. I don't believe that you have a problem with it.
Of course I do like many people. I find surreal that the murderer of Khashoggi now owns a Premier League club. I read a lot about it, you couldn't avoid it and there was international outrage and now the person who ordered it now owns your club. How could I not have a problem with that? I find it surreal. I am just surprised there hasn't been more outcry from Newcastle supporters. When Di Canio was appointed at Sunderland I know fans who stopped going but this is another universe.

Since all the Mags on here claim not to be happy with the Saudi takeover morally but are still going to support the team, does this mean there will be no rapturous reception for “His Excellency” at the Spurs match? I await the result with baited breath ...

I'll put it this way, I haven't had one educated response this morning on here.

What I'm asking is how do you honestly think the majority of you're clubs fans would of reacted, if they'd just been taking over by the same owners?

I'll say it again and again, the overwhelming majority would be ecstatic. To say otherwise is shear lies.
In pre war Germany there was an overwhelming majority of support for the National socialist party. Didnt make it ok. Then or now.

Kashoggi was a journalist who had principles and dared to speak the truth to this murderous regime.

The local journalists don't deserve the name journalist as they are merely cheerleaders, They dare not speak out at ask any questions as they will lose their access and seat on the gravy train.

Ok you can't do anything about it, fair point. But do you feel uncomfortable about having the perpetrator of Khashoggis murder owning your club?
