I honestly think it really is.
It is, not just because its the mags but a threshold has been crossed now with this particular state being allowed in (god knows what has been done to grease the wheels on this one).

Who knows, in 10 years time it might be Friday night Live on Sky, the Newcastle Headcutters vs Preston North Korea.

What's to stop Putin, Kim J or Iran buying a football club?

Put it this way if the shoe was on the other foot, most of you would be gloating like fuck.

I don't like the new owners at all, but the majority of you would of welcomed them with open arms if they were investing in SAFC. To say otherwise is absolute lies, take the moral high ground if you want but you know its true.

That's how football works now unfortunately.

I suspect we're going to hear this a lot now, inevitably followed by 'but'.

You joined the forum in 2013 pretending to be a Mackem. Dissapeared straight away until 2017 and then disappeared again but now you're back on a rival messageboard 'gloating'

Reet, rivalry baiting aside and this is my 'meltdown' on the takeover  I do agree with you about the modern game and how money has fucked it up! Aye teams in the 70's/80's dominated (well Liverpool basically) but there was still plenty room at the top for other teams to get excited about it and the prize money wasn't as big a thing as is now. Now it's the same big 4 finishing at least top 6 along with Spurs/Arsenal. Though those 2 teams are going through a blip in the last 2 seasons allowing other teams into the not so big money Europa League.

Some may say Leicester got into the Champions League but that was a one off. They are the only club to break into the big money Champions League since 2005! Yet since then their squad value/wages/debt have gone up ( ) but the revenue has peaked as they're not getting Champions League income. I can't see that being good for them long term as they don't look as good a team this year as they have in previous seasons and if they go outta Europa League in group stage it will lose them more revenue millions. Leicester's wages at £157m were higher than their revenue trying to compete with the big boys, though they lost a bit due to COVID. Everton look to be the same with a lot of revenue going on wages looking at the image below and I'm sure they lost big in 2020.

I can't see how the Mags will compete but actually stay up there (unless they fiddle FFP) as it's not just the £200 or whatever million being invested (that isn't all on players either), it's wages that are a huge burden every season. You just have to look at the wage bill of the big 6 as it's more than the revenue of the other clubs but that's because their revenue dwarfs other clubs. Aye Leicester got up there and won it but they haven't closed the huge revenue gap between the big 6 and the rest of the league in the time since. They're not even that far ahead of other teams and less than an Almiron (minus wages) to some and a Joelinton to other clubs as it's hard to stay up there financially in the modern football global era.

If the Mags find decent enough players, will they hold onto them? Even Leicester have sold some of the best players on to the bigger clubs rather than keep them and they've just reinvested in players but very few teams sustain that, hence cycles of good/bad seasons. Obviously the big clubs can shift on a few dud players for big fees and cover the losses but the non big 6 can't keep doing that season after season.

I think PIF may well bring in a few 'decent' players but long term just end up scouting/developing players and selling for a profit rather than keeping them. I doubt they are gonna do what Hall did in the 90's and hoy big fees and wages at decent players to come straight in. Some of the Mags will be in for a big shock when they realise having £320bn doesn't mean they're they big spenders and it will be a joy to watch!:lol:

17 out of 20 PL clubs would fail League 1 SCMP. Think on that.

Nowadays spending a vast amount of money doesn't guarantee you the league anymore. Far from it, in fact.
Manchester United have spent around a billion pounds since Alex Ferguson left and they haven't won the league or really challenged for it.
United have only managed to win since 2013:
1 Fa Cup
1 League Cup
1 Europa League

United are also household name who can attract big name players, unlike Newcastle who will have to spend a premium and over pay players for what they are worth.

I also think City are just too strong at the moment where they will probably dominate the league for the next decade or so.

To be honest you're not wrong but it's deeper than football actually. People are very easily swayed by things that benefit them, even things they know and accept to be wrong. It's a worrying part of our makeup and the Saudis know it works. Don't forget this is all in aid of cleansing the Saudi name after the Kashoggi affair by using Premier League football they've found a savvy way of doing it.

I think most fans would act the same way. Not something that's particularly exclusive to Newcastle, although it helps they've stagnated into depressive apathy and therefore this seems even more exciting. The only club I'd question in terms of if their fans would accept it is Liverpool because of the general political leanings of the area - but maybe that's me overestimating them.

I'm obviously excited by the takeover happening but I'm getting the vibe this isn't gonna turn out as well as promised.
Staveley shaking her head when saying affirmative statements. Like she doesn't quite believe what she's saying.

I might have read it wrong, or have a natural tendency to be pessimistic but seeing her interviewed on sky sports there talking about how it will go seemed a bit off. Time will tell. Proceed with caution imo.

You're being used, and most of your lot are too f***ing thick to notice, You'll be sold at a profit inside five years.

I really can’t stand how they are making out like the last 14 years has been torture.
They have been financially sound and have bounced back each time they have been relegated. Throw in a 5th place finish and European football, but they despise the manager who delivered it, whilst worshipping the one who took them down playing turgid football.
The mental health card they played makes me want to vomit.
Fuck the mags and what they will become

I think when I was young and daft, I would have accepted it with open arms. Your view changes as you get older and see more of the world and its problems.
Something like football, no matter how fervent your support is, should become secondary in a situation like this.

That's bollocks, I wouldn't want them anywhere near our club and when they have been linked to others the reaction has been the same.

They have done their homework well and knew exactly where they would be welcomed with open arms.
