NUFC/Sportwashing

Sportswashed.
Torywashed.
The FT article on all of this is superb, and hits the nail on the head.

Yes, this Saudi state incursion into the EPL is by far the worst of the unplayable, immoral “sportwashing” episodes in the U.K. However it’s not the first by any stretch. The EPL has allowed a creeping advancement of blood money etc in to the game, on the basis that a bloody dollar spends just as well as a clean one. That said - it’s ultimately our own (i.e. society’s) fault. We’ve created a society which doesn’t really stand for anything. Yeah we say we do - “rule of law”, “democracy”, “western freedoms” etc - but ultimately what we all believe in is money, and our freedom to buy what we want with it.

The upshot is that this particular week, we’ve got thousands of people in Newcastle dressing up as/celebrating a known murderer and terrorist-funder, because they’re convinced that he will buy them a trophy in a game, played by people they’ve never and probably will never meet. That’s not because there’s something evil about Newcastle supporters - we all know plenty of them and we all know that the majority of them are very decent people, no different to any other “fans”. It’s because our society has conditioned itself to see what it wants right now, and not ask questions about the “how”, so long as we get it.

It’s not a Newcastle problem and it’s not even a football problem - at least in the meaningful sense. It’s a societal moral problem. We should all be paying more attention to it, and thinking about how our society could be better/have some more moral backbone, but we won’t.
This won't go down well at all although it's spot on.

It isn't though is it, it's factually correct. As a country we can't even get our own shit in order, what chance have Newcastle fans of addressing a state?
I have issues with our county's foreign policies at times and this has influenced how I've voted in our democratic elections. Not sure how those get on in Saudi.

I don't think in recent memory we've targeted civilian casualties. But you know this is and, like your buddies, are casting about to justify monsters owning your club.

He’s right we should do something about it, how long before these corrupt bastards start bribing opposition players or officials or referees fear giving a decision against them for fear of reprisals against them or their families

You already sing songs about us man, this is hardly new. You are fucked off because we are wealthy - at least be honest.

If you were genuinely aggrieved that the Saudi's had infiltrated the sport, you would be doing something about it.

So you don't think this country has ever committed any atrocities of its own? Righto. I assume the deaths of innocents in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria is ok?

And theres the whataboutery

So because we haven't targeted them, the fact they are casualties of war makes it ok? Did the victims sign up to this?

I'm not trying to justify them at all, I said we should be holding all of these bastards to account be we won't/aren't.
And theres the whataboutery
It's true though, it's not whataboutery just because you don't like it. Why don't you try and address the points? You can't.

So what will you be doing apart from giving them your money ?

Best not use Uber anymore either oh dear!

PIF owns Qiddiyah,[22] spearheads the Red Sea project for luxury beach resorts,[23][24] and owns the closed joint-stock company named NEOM.[25][26] PIF owns a 5.7% stake (valued at $500 million) in concert distributor Live Nation.[27] In 2020, PIF purchased minority stakes in major U.S. companies including Boeing, Facebook and Citigroup.[28] PIF disclosed a $713.7 million stake in Boeing, around $522 million in Citigroup, a $522 million stake in Facebook, a $495.8 million stake in Disney and a $487.6 million stake in Bank of America. It also disclosed a small stake in Berkshire Hathaway.[29] PIF also disclosed an $827.7 million stake in oil company BP.[30] In 2020, PIF purchased a 2.32% stake (valued at $1.5 billion) in India's Jio Platforms,[31][32] and reduced its holdings in US stocks to $7 billion from $10.1 billion in the third quarter. It instead left a stake of $2.7 billion in Uber.[33]

Thick as mince equating small stakes in publicly quoted companies with a controlling stake in a private company running an historic football club. You're a sorry excuse for a human being, an apologist for the unforgiveable.
