Think a lot of it is down to the short term ambitions of either club. Everton are safe and are building to the future. Newcastle need players who are proven and will have to pay extra for that.
I'm surprised how many think Trippier is a long term fix and can't quite grasp he's mainly there to keep them up this season and hopefully away from relegation next season. Stay up and they can bring more players in the summer for longer term plans as NUFC won't have the relegation factor noose around their neck like now.

He's went there for £100k+ a week but no doubt will have a huge bonus coming his way if the Mags stay. Trippier is clearly a money grabbing mercenary and that bonus will be small change compared to the cost of going down.

I can’t understand this one. If he’s as good as I thought he was, why has one else come in for him and why is he only 12m?

Craig Hope:
'Fee of £12m plus add-ons (tbc but believe to be around £3m). Told Trippier will become highest earner on around £100k p/w. Now expected on Tyneside for medical. Will be big statement by owners, current England regular as their first signing'

Yeah, he's earning outrageous money...
According to the Telegraph NE reporter (forget his name) add ons to Trippier deal could be as much as another £12m. Apparently one of the add ons is triggered if they aren’t relegated.
