Fortunately, there are enough people (just) in the North East and beyond with enough back bone and moral fibre to bring up their children properly.

Not true. A poll was conducted in January 2021 where fans said they'd want Howe to replace Bruce. Bruce even commented on it in a press conference referring to him as 'that fella at Bournemouth who got them relegated'.
He was a better option and a realistic appointment even by Ashley standards.
