No dig, I just probably was clear the trains on the Northumberland Line are all contained so they only need to double up the 3 trains and you've dealt with it.
Whereas the Durham Coast isn't so you might have one on the way to Sunderland but after the game it's in Carlisle or Whitby so you need a lot more.
Btw I live on the line and according to the local resident groups it was an absolute shit storm last Saturday with not only them all 2 car, half of them were cancelled. It's much of the same tbh regardless to the PR they stick out.
It's a good thing that the Northumberland Line is proving popular, reduces car use. The same applies to the Durham Coast line..
By allowing the overcrowding they are turning away customers, or at least putting them off.
It's just a shame that it's not possible to run a circular service linking up major cities within the region, Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, ok Thornaby, Darlington, Durham but congestion on the ECML stops that.
Not sure what the answer is to peak time overcrowding on certain routes at certain times just hope better brain's than mine are at least looking at it, but I'm not sure they are.
