Northern trains

Nothing going to happen until 2023 at earliest
Read an interview with Head of network

My mates from Horden are going to get train to boro and get on there next time
Nowts happend for the last 40 years on northern trains after Stockton on a match day your lucky to get a seat

It was an absolute disgrace yesterday. The 10:31 from Middlesbrough was full by the time we left Thornaby.
By the time it got to Horden it was uncomfortably hot and LATE! The train was packed, massive risk of covid floating around in those conditions too. People having to make other plans because Northern can’t offer a good enough service is a disgrace.
Only highlight was that I didn’t pay as the conductor couldn’t get up and down the train.
I’ll be emailing them today. Not that it will do any difference mind

I’ll be contacting them today too. Didn’t pay a penny on the train home

One of our group got on at Horden and said it was horrendous and it didn’t even stop at Seaham where loads were waiting to get on. I find it staggering they can’t put on extra carriages on match days, especially now with a new station in a heavily populated SAFC supporting area. It’s just common sense surely when there’s major mass gathering events happening.

With the road issues yesterday into Sunderland from the west as well it sounded like a nightmare for many of us trying to get into the city.

They’ve done that for years not pick up at seaham

they announce straight after Hartlepool anyone wanting to get off at sea ham make there way to the front carriages to get off no one allowed on though @Disco_Pants93 true or true

The 12:31 from Boro was no better either no seats left after Stockton loads crammed on at Hartlepool and Horden, loads turned away at Seaham. Been happening for years absolute joke that they won’t even put 1 extra carriage on

Daft question... Doesn't the train from London stop at hartlepool en route to Sunderland? And if so can you jump on it?
Grand Central normally offer that service.

However it doesn't appear to be on their website anymore. A bloke I was talking to on the train yesterday said they weren't offering it until January.

I'd normally board that service at eaglescliffe.

I've emailed houchen and vickers about it. They won't be arsed

They had 4 carriages on with covid on yet everything relative back to normal they only put two on

I wrote to Northern Rail a few years ago about all this. I got a 4 or 5 page reply from the head honcho, who was open and honest about the problems we faced as customers and he faced as the head honcho, honestly the bloke sounded suicidal. The letter didn't really address anything , other than he couldn't wait until Manchester got their new trains, as apparently after that we were getting their old rolling stock, which by all accounts would be a massive improvement on what we are currently using on the NE coast.

I would normally get the 1130am Grand Central at HPool but the service isn’t running at the moment. I don’t go to every game these days and didn’t go yesterday but the last few times we’ve been either my daughter has dropped me off or I’ve got a taxi, £35 between two of us.

As Hank said been shite for years.
Always remeber Sunday 1245 kickoffs in the prem were a mare, like only 2 trains would get you up to Sund in time, and was always still only 2 carriages on

It's an absolute disgrace, to only have two carriages on yesterday.
I squeezed on the delayed 11:03 out of H/pool, and the train was already heaving.
Standing room only, and in the middle of a Covid pandemic, there was no space to even turn around, as we were jammed in against one another, like sardines.
Both Sunland & The Mags were at home yesterday, to add to the already considerable number of passengers, who'd already boarded the train, at stations prior to Seaton Carew, H/pool, Horden, and Seaham.

Back In the late seventies I used to get the train from darlo to thornaby to pools. 2 carriages, 43 years, bugger all has changed. What’s the point of opening new stations or offering free tickets as compo if you can’t get on the frigging train.

Totally agreed, mate.
It's beyond comprehension, how Northern, can only put two carriages on, on a busy Saturday, knowing that the usual GC service wasn't running, and when the North East's two biggest football teams are playing at home, and not forgetting those people that use the train to travel up to Newcastle, for shopping, a day or night out, or those heading to the airport.
Unbelievable incompetence down the years.
