Fecking abysmal sunderland for a train drink! Once paid £3.50 in that city tavern for a maxim for train ffs.
Bleak sunderland as a city. You can walk from the sol to the station and barely a business open.

Beecham's closure of many of our railway lines was a disgrace. We (almost) have a third world public transport infrastructure in parts of the UK.
Not to mention the ridiclous cost of train tickets. It's much cheaper to drive long distances in many cases. That includes the cost of keeping the car on the road.
Trains are by far the most pleaant way to travel, IMO. What a shame we do it so badly.
