Couldnt have put it better.

On a cheltenham to durham train now. Staff asking folk to spread out as best possible yet were herded onto those feckers like cattle. Fecking disgrace.

Blackpool fan I know bought his B'pool to Hull train ticket for 1 quid and return for the same. Got his Village gym membership free night stay voucher used for the Hull Village hotel. 2 quid for his accom and travel ... happy days !

Did anyone bother with the trains last night?
Northern have sent me 2 complimentary return tickets as a good will gesture after Saturday.

I was on the 5:01 pm out of H/pool.
Two carriages on the train, but plenty of seats available.
Obviously there wasn't the usual amount of shoppers or hen parties, heading north at 5pm, as there usually is on a Saturday morning or afternoon.
No problems with passengers boarding the train at Horden and Seaham.

I got the 10:05 pm from Sunland after the game.
Again, there was just two carriages on, but myself and my mates, had no problem getting seats.

Thank you for contacting Northern.

I am writing to you in regards to correspondence you have sent ourselves relating to your experience when travelling from Thornaby and the over-crowding conditions on board.

I would like to firstly express my sincere apologies for your experience on this occasion and the over-crowding conditions you experienced on board. I appreciate the concern and frustration this raised for you. At present, Northern are operating as many services as we can network wide and where we anticipate a high demand in customer volume we do try and seek additional carriages in order to bolster the services scheduled to operate. Unfortunately, however we have a limited number of carriages available to us and therefore, it is not always possible to bolster the services with additional capacity.

That does not excuse however the conditions you experienced when travelling, therefore please be assured your comments have been duly noted alongside the headcode of your intended service and journey details. These will be fed back to the wider company to demonstrate customer concerns when they are travelling with ourselves and will also help us highlight where additional resources are needed across our network and which routes are seeing an increase in demand.

I reiterate my sincere apologies for your experience, and please be assured your comments have been duly noted.

Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact ourselves.

Kind Regards,
Jodie Jackson

Well that's bollocks. As I've said on here before Sat 18th Sept I used Horden to Saltburn train, 4 carriages on and the train was pretty empty yet they only put 2 on for a football matchday... They're talking bollocks about limited carriage numbers.

They need to make sure at least one of the 11 or 12 o clock trains on Saturday have at least one extra carriage and publicise this beforehand.

I was talking to a train guard, on the train home from last night's match, and I mentioned how pissed off rail travellers are, with the lack of carriages and the substandard service of the trains on a Saturday.
He sympathised and said Northern was aware of the problems, and are trying to secure extra carriages from Leeds.

That happens regularly. Two carriages on a Saturday and four on a Sunday……Madness and doesn’t make sense.
I saw 6 heading south one Sunday - tweeted them about it and they said that they were just moving carriages to go on to Whitby and Bishop etc from Middlesbrough so maybe that's the explanation for the four-carriage trains. Standard is almost always 2 LONG before Covid.
