I am gobsmacked by this post tbh.Yes. Me personally I would support Shields. But my affection for Sunderland could never die.
If I could put this into perspective back in the early 70's until the early 80's before immigrating to Australia I visited 54 away grounds supporting Sunderland. Probably about 10 0r so supporting Shields.
I plan my holidays back to the UK around Sunderland games. Even including a 5 day trip for the Man City game at Wembley.
But if Shields played Sunderland in the FA Cup round 3 or beyond I would be absolutely 100% for South Shields.
South Shields people really support Sunderland by default is what I am saying. I don't mean this in a negative way. I'm sure that you have met Shields people that are Sunderland till they die but this is because the town has not been represented for nearly 90 years in the league.
It would be great if they were and to be honest I think that is quite a threat to Sunderland Football Club.
