Everyone should just think 3 shifts pattern. Long term security. Not just for nissan lads and lasses. But tbh the North east economy. Everyone knows someone who works at nissan or subsidiary companies. It's fantastic news imo . Long term security for staff and families. The Chinese company taking over line 1 will create more new jobs as well. Its all positive news for the North east 🙌

All positive mate but I can guarantee that revolving door will be on super sonic speed once these people start doing a 10 hour Sunday night shift be loads quiting

They would have no bother getting staff in if they done something about that Fri late shift work few hours extra during week and getaway 7/8pm or summit what young lad wants to be stuck in there when all his mates are out on the pisss every other week

Yes but each shift could work extra 15 mins so late shift can get away at a sensible time that isn’t ruining everyone’s social life it wouldn’t bother me at all if it made fris better people sit up until 3/4 am what’s the beef with doing extra 15/30 mins to get away early on fri lates

When the NIMS line was first installed in 2007 when Qashqai was introduced we went on 3 shifts with no Friday nights OT even thought of or ever planned to be needed...
The Germans who installed it told Trevor Mann to slowly ramp up the line over the first month or it would continually break down...
Of course Trevor being in charge knew better. He said we have thousands of orders for this new Qashqai so the line needs to go flat out from the get go.
Well it will break down they said, no it won't said Trevor...
So flat out it went and sure enough breakdown after breakdown and the build fell over 1000 behind schedule which meant clever Trevor had to report back to Japan and let them know why we were so far behind with a brand new line...
I had a new Nevos Qashqai ordered for March then they told everyone it was pulled from the Nevos as they had to give them to real customers so never ever got it.
Then once the line settled in the overtime came which was all day Saturdays and for the first time for us Friday nightshifts...
We did this for a full year to catch back on the orders though they never did fully.. This meant for that year you averaged a max of 5 days off in a month depending on how your shifts fell. We earned a fortune, got over £10k in OT alone that year but were either at work or asleep and barely had any time to spend it, it really ground you down doing it month after month.
Then we had literally just done the last Friday nightshift in October and they announced they had too many cars and there would be stand downs off every Friday for all of November and December!!! CLEVER TREVOR..!!!!
I hated the Friday nights as though technically you were off Saturday when you finished your shift on the morning at 07:30am, when you got home after your shift by 8am it ballsed the whole weekend up as you either had to sleep a load so missed most of it and were awake all night or if you tried to just get a few hours sleep so you did not miss all the day you were really tired still and shagged all Saturday and Sunday.
Glad I never had to do them ever again after that year, you did well missing out on those... 👍
