Nissan

I work in Automotive, and the whole of Europe is in a mess, expected to improve but 2025 is going to be a struggle.

With regards to pay negs, I'm not shop floor, so slightly different, but I'd have snapped your hand off for that in the current climate.....I've got 3.15% BUT deferred from JAN till APR, meaning company effectively saving 25% of the rises budgeted for 2025.

I was surprised we got owt to be fair, there's been previous years when there's been no award.....but Shop Floor lads and lasses still got it as part of a multi year deal.

Which is right, as without the (proper) grafters, the rest of us would be fooked.
The price of cars needs to fall sharply and quickly. Simple as that, people just won't pay the money manufacturers are demanding these days, hence china mopping up all the sales.

I hear you….but then you crash the used market and people can’t or won’t trade in their car as they’re losing money, especially if on finance….which will impact new sales.

Not sure what the answer is, but the manufacturers and suppliers need to react to the current market and survive first and foremost.

That’s the thing, a lot of people could get away with little very cheaply produced town cars the size of smart cars fora few miles commute daily, or nipping to the shops and back, they don’t need to be loaded with every gadget known to man and see them more as a means to get you a-b cheaply with as little impact on the environment as possible.
Those that need the much bigger ranges will cough for the greater range cars at the higher prices.
There’s a reason firms like Nissan and ford sold countless millions of micras and fiestas etc, lots of people just wanted a cheap car that just fulfilled its primary use rather than some bloated house on wheels

I don't disagree but ice cars are also too expensive.

I wasn't picking out EVs in particular when making my point. The whole market has exploded.

Yes a lot of people just want a small town runaround, manufacturers can't seem to see it and just pump put bigger and bigger cars. Ford scrapping the fiesta was a massive own goal.

True.

Greed has finally came back to bite them firmly on the arse.

Market exploded when more and more ‘cheap’ options of owning a car came about. Wasa time it was bank loan, pay outright from savings or buy second hand car were pretty much the viable options for most, then the massive explosion of leasing cars in various forms, way out of peoples actual affordability range became rampant.

Council drones and other average earners paying more and more monthly to lease a car they could never afford to actually buy meant car prices and features could be pushed higher and higher as it was all on lease anyway to be returned in 3 years time then rinse and repeat. Still can’t get my head around people thinking this is the best way to run a car. Great you get a new car for 3 years that you have to watch what mileage you put on the clock, you’re never gonna own it and your trapped in a cycle of never ending payments year after year

Couldn't agree more. Renting a car for life is crazy and a great way to burn money whilst never owning an asset.

Aye but you do get to step out of a Tesla feeling a million dollars….yet everyone with any sense just looks and thinks what a mug leasing that for silly amounts a month😂

Cheap to buy, cheap to run, compact, better for the environment using a lot less materials, exactly what many people would opt for going into the electric car transition. Ideal car for kids and old folks, and people who don’t need to commute far
Pretty much why Nissan won’t sell these things outside of Japan, when they can fleece the world for their over priced models 😂

That looks uglier than a Fiat Multipla.(for anyone old enough to remember) My god nee wonder we are doomed. Do the designers pick summit off the fridge that the bairn has drawn at nursery and think aye that’ll dee
Think it’s built more for the practicality and price rather than looks😂

And before that the original Mini and Mini Metro.
I think one of the issues though is modern car safety. Nee air bags or crumple zones in them days.

Funnily my mate had his traditional Nissan Xmas Dinner in canteen the other day . But didn't agree with him . And he had a gary glitter like the flag of Japan the next day like 👍

One extreme to another though, small and economical to 3 tonne monsters of the road, built like tanks 😂

For double the price you can get a proper car like a ford focus...😆
