It was back then. We'd look back on it fondly if it was us tbf

The team they played in the final, who's name no one can spell, had qualified because one of their opponents didn't bother to show up for the match

Are they plotting this stunt? You just know they are either going to buy Slazenger( owned by fat mike) or get 3for a pound at sports direct. They are that thick

I know nothing about this. I wonder if they'll use those ball throwers that dog walkers use. It would be youtube heaven if they did that and then a job lot of dog dashed onto the pitch.

Nah, qualification had nowt to do with performance and teams got byes through certain rounds. Their intertoto certificate is more legitimate.

Teams 'qualified' for the next round on a bye, when the other team didn't show up, or a coin toss after a draw.

The team Newcastle beat, in the final, was basically an army team who were put through on political motives.

The competition was devised as a publicity stunt and UEFA had absolutely nothing to do with it.

To suggest it was a major trophy is ridiculous, it was a novelty and nothing more.

...that we can't manage unless we win nothing until 2067.

NUFC's last major competitive trophy, the FA Cup in 1955 is now closer to their founding than the present day, or, the club have now won nothing for half their existence!

You've forgotten the Intertoto Certificate that they won.

The first finals were representative teams like a London X1 versus a Barcelona X1 and only cities which had hosted trade fairs could play in it. Birmingham got to a final for Christ’s sake. Some teams took it seriously some didn’t. It was all a bit random. In fairness it was a bit more than a glorified exhibition by the time the mags won it but still ...
