Speaking totally hypothetically, just consider the following.

Ashley is adept at cutting his nose off to spite his face.

Remember I posted, a month before it happened, that he didn't appreciate being made to look a dope by Staveley and that he'd pull out of the deal.

Benitez is doing the bare minimum, criticising the club & players and 'risking relegation'.

Would Ashley risk relegation, reduce the club's value and see Benitez walk off grinning with the continued adoration of the Mags
