Not really a two horse race is it, unless you mean 3rd in a two horse race where the 3rd horse had won the league and reached the champions league final in 2014 , a year and a bit before he arrived. Also that same season that 3rd horse finished 3 points behind the champions, and reached the champions league final again. Atleti are genuine challengers. Finished 2nd last season again.

Fairly impressive of Man City to win the league at an absolute canter last season by not even being a 'horse' when they had went even longer than Atleti did (not considered a 'horse' 18 months after winning the title) imo.

Mags getting all giddy over something that happened in another country when benitez got sacked after 25 games.

Maybe if Ashley had done similar instead of standing by his manager, things would be a little rosier on toonside?

If he'd sacked McClaren earlier? I completely agree.

Things might be rosier on Wearside too...

Whilst Real Madrid were 3rd in a two horse race when Benitez was sacked, Barcelona were 2nd in a two horse race at the time of Benitez's dismissal.

Was it Newcastle fans that brought up Benitez's Real Madrid tenure?

Can we please forget Real Madrid and go straight to how he was lucky to win two league titles and a UEFA cup with Valencia after inheriting Hector Cuper's team

Aye they didn't do too badly under Benitez, think they scored 70 odd goals in 25 games and lost just 3 times. Also had a record breaking champions league group campaign.
Couple of high scoring wins as well from The Defensive One, 10-0 and 8-0.
As you're obviously so well informed about Spanish football, can you kindly tell us the average amount of TV money received by Barca, Real, and Athletico over the past ten years?

Thanks in advance, etc.

No.

Onto discussing TV revenue share in La Liga now

Weird as fuck.

So when the duopoly is broken and it becomes a 3 horse race it comes down to tv revenue to discredit Benitez because with the amount of money at Real he should've been 10 points clear of Atleti.

Keegan and Benitez both intimated that this to be the case, and that this was the reason for their unhappiness.

I'd believe their word over MA's any day of the week

Well then you’re daft, aren’t you? Any manager with a level of popularity knows they can play the fan base off against an unpopular owner.

Why are all the sad mags on here using what fatty did with other teams year's a f***ing go to make out he's world class?

How about tell us what he's done for Newcastle, oh wait...

Fuck knows how Luis Enrique was sacked seeing as he was behind <vacant> at times in that season.

Staveley wanted NUFC on the cheap.

If the club isn't worth £350 million then why should Ashley pump more money in?
