Unsustainable spending? We weren't spending that much. We had one of the top 20 revenues in Europe for a long period as well. The 01-04 team that sir bobby had in the top 4 and 5 and was in the cl slaying your marras feyenoord didn't cost much at all
I see you managed to ignore the rest of the squad and the money spent previously.

When Ashley saved your club, you were in a similar position to Chelsea and Leeds due to trying to buy success. Chelsea were lucky, Leeds weren’t.

Newcastle were unlucky not to get a Russian Billionaire, but were lucky that someone did actually save them, but you hate him because he wasn’t a Russian billionaire prepared to continue your quest to buy success.

Has anyone pointed out the irony of reading an article posted on the mag and saying newcastle fans are obsessed? ;) The fact is, contrary to popular belief, both sets of supporters are pretty much identical in behaviour; neither are more "obsessed" than the other, just interested in the rival team because it would be more weird not to be, by extension of them being the rival team in an area where sporting rivalries are scarce. It's good to have a bit of banter with each other, and showing an interest is part of that - we haven't got much else to talk about, lets be honest.

We're all more than likely from similar backgrounds, areas etc too, which makes it equally weird when people refer to opposing fans as if they're genetically, biologically or mentally different somehow. I've heard/read things from both sets of fans along the lines of "wouldn't find me being friends with one of them lot" or random references to how "they" are ugly/fat/stupid/whatever which is just insane behaviour tbf considering choice of football team is usually just based on an arbitrary decision you were probably forced into as a 4 year old.

Nobody is obsessed with anybody. It's the only 2 main clubs in a large area. Been local rivals and will of had work colleagues families etc supporting both clubs for decades, bound to always be rivalry and comparisons. Especially in such a passionate football area.

When we went down it made your year, you went on more about that than we did about you getting relegated out the pub league at home to Burton in front of thousands upon thousands of empty seats.

Sunderland have lost more games than anyone else in the last 10 years apparently and even your fans and new owners say that it's a club used to abject failure and been a laughing stock. We have won f all but we haven't been getting humiliated most weeks and an almost 10 year relegation battle finishing up with been battered out of the bottom of the pub league by Burton and Ipswich Barnsley etc.

Currently it's a long, long way back for you to rival us in any aspect on or off the pitch though.

If you had 10 top 6 premier league finishes and 100 plus European games then maybe you lot would be the same? I'm certain if we never once made the top 6 or played in Europe then we would be the same as you are expectation wise.

Manure genuinely were our rivals in the past though as we were competing for pl titles and fa cup finals against them as well as against Barcelona in the cl. I have never heard a Newcastle fan say that in the last 15 years though.

When I and I'm sure most Newcastle fans think of Sunderland all that comes to mind is 5 in a row, an empty stadium and league 1.
Football is cyclical, always will be. What I, and others, object to is you’re sense of entitlement. Fans of other clubs feel the same, hence why Villa fans took the piss out of you. You got into Europe and finished second, so what ? The football records don’t care about that. You’ve won nowt since the 50’s, even we and Boro can beat that.

Given free

Hughes free
Dabizas 2m
O brien 2m
Bernard 500k

Robert 10m
Dyer 6m
Speed 4m
Solano 2m

Shearer 15m
Bellamy 6m

55m team is hardly chucking money about even by early 00s standards
Shearer was a world record fee man that's more than Barca, Real, Man Utd, Juve, AC Milan, Inter Milan etc, etc.... were spending at that time.
Give yer f***ing head a shake man.

Whereas our morons would have sent a squadron of Lacashire bombers over.

Villa  the same villa who also had to close parts of that ground down recently

Not a sense of entitlement at all it's just that between 94 and 2007 when Ashley came we were used to regular European football and had the second and third highest gates in the country. Wanting to finish around 6th/7th isn't a sense of entitlement or delusion it's wanting to maintain standards.

If you lot had a 10-15 year spell of top 4 and 6 finishes then I'm sure you would of been hoping for and expecting that to carry on as well.

I only read the article as it appeared on a Sunderland search page. The title made me wonder what shite has this tit written. I wondered how long it would take him to mention attendances, airport, etc

I thought you wouldn’t be able to.

Calling them a championship team simply provides an excuse for Benitez playing his woeful defensive tactics. Personally, I thought the squad he inherited was far superior to what he has now, he has bought some mediocrity to replace the little quality that you originally had.

The team he inherited was 18th, so he must have done an amazing job to get an inferior team as you say to 10th then?

In the early to mid 00s we were like spurs are now. Playing cl and signing the best young talent. Imagine some idiot taking over spurs now and relegating them by 2020. That's what Ashley achieved when he took over us then took us down 2 years later.

I'm sure you lot weren't calling us deluded when we were playing Barcelona juventus inter etc. You'd of thought we'd never played a European tie the way you go on when we mention it

Mate, Villa are one of the biggest clubs in the country.
:lol::lol::lol:

Stop it now. Barely even bigger than Sunderland for me, if at all
