The thing is Ashley re-invested the money made on those players.
Where did you see the Pickford money being re-invested

That was a one off to cover the cost of relegation. Ashley has put transfer fees back in to be fair to him but that's the bare minimum he should do. Without that he has basically spent 3m a season for a club brining in what we do. Shocking and again no wonder why you love him. I bet Swansea have spent more on a third of the gates.

You also had to overpay people to go to Sunderland as well

That’s my whole point, after years of spending Short could no longer do it, so he gave up when you got relegated. So for mabye 2/10 seasons he was at Sunderland he didn’t spend money. Yet you all hate him whilst at the same time saying how great Ashley is yet we’ve had about 9/10 seasons where Ashley has spent the absolute bare minimum.
I don’t hate him.

That's why they love Ashley though as he has done a great job of sabotaging and holding back the thing they hate the most, NUFC.

Even dragged us below there level and allowed the 6 in a row. I don't recall any relegation battles In my lifetime pre Ashley or any multiple derby losses. Plenty post Ashley though

But if we hadn’t received that type of daft money for Sissoko and Wjinaldum we wouldn’t have spent anything anyway, Ashley will basically at a push spend what he receives for other players. Short was buying players for years for you lot and finally gave up two years ago, yet all of a sudden he’s portrayed as some sort of villain who spent nothing and Ashley in they eyes of Sunderland fans is some sort of great owner and we are unrealistic and deluded for thinking he should spend more money.
Shorts only spent £3m per season more over a ten year period where we only made a profit on 3 f***ing players and lumbered us in over £100m debt.
Ashley has made huge profits on player sales and as you a midtable Prem club he should be applauded for his transfer dealings.
The fact is you's think you should be up with the top teams when in reality baring a spell in the 90s (which almost bankrupted you) you never have been.
You're one of the also ran's hoping to finish 7th get used to it.

All visiting fans and even your own players go to and live in Newcastle so no wonder

Can't be another place like Sunderland with such bitterness, hatred and jealousy of a superior club and city in Newcastle

Daft argument really, he was given about £35 million last summer to keep a championship team in the division and he somehow managed to finish 10th. Not that Ashley would ever give him £200 million but if he did I reckon he would improve on that and not get relegated.
I think you’re starting to believe this rubbish about Benitez only having a championship team.

Was that same team not a premiership team the year before. Could you list all of these championship players that were regular starters last season. Even the likes of Gayle had premiership experience and was bought from a premiership club.

How old are you? That spell in the 90s was the exception not the rule.

29. I can only recall back as far as maybe 94

From 93 until Ashley came there was no relegation battles and regular European football as well as one of the highest turnovers in Europe. Then he undid all that

00s we were up there as well and I know we are that's all we want now to be best of br rest and have a cup run yet still get called deluded somehow for wanting to be above Burnley Southampton etc

Nobody expects us to be in the top 4, one of the biggest myths in football that, what we expect is to try and improve each season and not have an owner who thinks finishing 17th is an achievement and therefore won’t spend. We somehow came 5th not long ago and instead of trying to improve and build on that he spent 6 million on Anita and we almost got relegated, complete madness.

It was a team that had been relegated from the Premier so were obviously not good enough for it, it also had been weakened by the sale of some of the players, pretty much a championship team if your not good enough to be in the premier.

You were spending beyond your means and would have went bankrupt had Ashley not saved you.
Have a look at Leeds that's what would have happened to Newcastle if not worse.

No, he simply stopped the unsustainable spending spree you were on, sorted out the clubs finances and started to run you within your means.

Your debt is still increasing, though slower than it was, despite receiving crazy money for the likes of Carroll, Sissoko, Winaldum, etc..., and yet you still want him to bankroll Benitez, who will spend spend spend and leave as soon as a better offer comes along.

Bollocks Sir Bobby was hounded out for only finishing 5th.
Evidence of this.

ES was a villain for giving up running away and hiding for the last couple of years, though he came good in the end with a deal which was good for SAFC and not himself - it’s been an expensive hobby for him.
I don’t blame him at all for spending above his means and giving it a huge go, though I know fans are divided on him. He was no way derided like FMA who is universally detested, who has also spent more money that your club can afford.

Do you get the net spend argument is bollocks though? You’re the only club who uses it.
Net f***ing spend

So, name the players who started regularly last season who you consider to be championship players.

You tell me, you were the ones all saying we would come straight back down as our team was shite and lucky to get promoted.
I thought you wouldn’t be able to.

Calling them a championship team simply provides an excuse for Benitez playing his woeful defensive tactics. Personally, I thought the squad he inherited was far superior to what he has now, he has bought some mediocrity to replace the little quality that you originally had.

Unsustainable spending? We weren't spending that much. We had one of the top 20 revenues in Europe for a long period as well. The 01-04 team that sir bobby had in the top 4 and 5 and was in the cl slaying your marras feyenoord didn't cost much at all
