That isn't what Ashley wants though. He wants youth signed so they can sell for profit and continue for the club to self fund. However that doesn't suit the mag agenda. Van Bronckhorst could be an excellent move for them.
But on a purely sporting basis his only appetite is to finish 17th or above. Someone like GVB would go in their and attempt to overhaul the playing style quickly which historically in the premier league tends to backfire (a team that have been well drilled defensively all of a sudden approaching games on the front foot) De Boer at Palace being a prime example, dare I say Advocaat too here after our escape from relegation.

I can see your point, but the happy to finish 17th stuff is rubbish imo. Ashley wants the club to look after itself financially. That would mean a solid midtable finish each season and making profit on transfers.

I'd be orgamsic with that myself if we ever return to the premiership

Throw in the odd cup run too

Not sure it’s rubbish, having any ambition to get into Europe is beyond their means, if you offered him 17th now he would take it, most chairmen would in truth.
