New Music Releases Thread

I’ve been revisiting, because of the deluxe edition release, Box For Buddy, Box For Star by This Is Lorelei and it’s a record that really passed me by until the MJ Lenderman version of Dancing In The Club and it’s an absolutely outstanding record.

Some great reworked versions of the songs by artists I really like such as Snail Mail, Momma and erm… comedian Tim Heidecker.

I’m a couple of weeks behind (they announced tour dates and I thought “better check their new album”) but the new Pet Needs record is excellent!

Bonner Kramer + Thurston Moore album delivers. All instrumental except for a Joy Division cover (Insight).
Also gave a listen to Irked (punk band from the North East). Enjoyable and full of energy. As I mentioned in Pop Recs thread, they play there on 9th June.

2 albums just reased from Lat night from Glasgow label
the blubells
the brontes
both good, janglytastic guitars not groundbreaking but enjoyable nevertheless. 7.5/10 for both.

There are new releases on Friday from Aldous Harding, Basement, Broken Social Scene, Cola, Croz Boyce (half of Animal Collective), GIRLI, Loraine James, Lykke Li, MUNA, Nicholas Krgovic, Olof Dreijer (lad from The Knife), Shye Ben Tzur Jonny Greenwood & The Rajasthan Express, Social Distortion, The Lemon Twigs, The Sleeves, The Loft, Hurray For The Riff Raff (live album), Simon Bromide & the Bromides, Lucky Break, Brother Wallace, Super Furry Animals (early stuff, very early stuff) and Laurie Anderson & Sexmob.

I usually check this thread out around January time to get a sense of what the best music of the previous year has been.

I realise it's May ha but I took all of the lists on here and Claude spat out the following -

Here's what stands out from analysing those posts:

The three most recommended albums are:

  1. Geese – Getting Killed — This is the clear frontrunner, appearing in at least five separate lists, including two members naming it their outright album of the year.
  2. Caroline – Caroline 2 — Appears in four lists, with at least one person awarding it their AOTY. Strong consistent praise throughout.
  3. Cate Le Bon – Michelangelo Dying — Appears in three lists, and Wednesday – Bleeds is joint third on the same count. Bleeds arguably edges it given one member made it their top pick, but it's very close.

Honourable mentions to Hesse Kassel – La Brea, Clipse – Let God Sort 'Em Out, and Bon Iver – Sable/Fable, each cropping up in two or three lists.

Finally read this. It’s excellent and should be read by all
45k on bus hire nearly made me fall off my seat.

Went to see Crack Cloud the other night at the White Hotel. They were class and that album works a lot better live than I was expecting. Slightly mad venue. Went into the most depressing pub of my life beforehand. Got leathered and was sick in Victoria station. Good night, disgraceful scenes.

Jay from PSB once wrote something similar, but no where near as detailed as that - fascinating read about the nuts & bolts of a live tour (like someone getting the national express from cardiff to heathrow!).
I think the standout for me is just how important merch is these days. Like that tour makes a substantial loss without merch which may seem like an obvious thing but still.

Lad  Where was this?

I can’t face being really hungover with a baby to look after the next day.
