New Music Releases Thread

Lisa Nandy & Chris Bryant getting some pats on the back for bringing in modernising measures that make sure 'legacy' musicians get paid fairly in the 21st century streaming world. There is more to it than just that, but that is the headline impact. basically loads of musicians who signed their contracts pre streaming have been getting fucked over since streaming became big as their contract never covered it and the record labels have been taking the royalties. This forces new contracts to be agreed etc

Sounds like most industry types are saying its a good and necessary move, but also that there is plenty more that needs fixing in the industry and they want that to be addressed to as this is only the first thing of many.

latest episode of The Price Of Music (a really great podcast series that breaks down how the music industry works in the UK) covers it in more detail

David Boulter (Tindersticks) has released a decent 6 track EP called Whitby. Anyone who enjoys Tindersticks soundtrack work will probably appreciate it.

Back to the now regular Wednesday spot. There are new albums on Friday from Ada Lea, Amaarae, Anamanaguchi, Bad Suns, Big Freedia. Charley Crockett, Ethel Cain, Field Medic, Good Charlotte, Halestorm, Hayes Carll, JID, Jonas Brothers, mgk (formerly Machine Gun Kelly), No Joy, Osees and The Black Keys.

Off on the sick for the next four weeks cos I've just had surgery at the start of the week to put my hip put together at my big old age of 32 :lol: been slacking this year with new music, think I've only ticked off about 25-30 albums and most of them are Hip Hop (hip haha lol etc) and R&B.

What's been people's favourite albums so far this year? Think I've missed quite a lot. A few good guitar albums wouldn't got amiss.

Panda Bear has been my favourite so far although I’ve been loving the new Hayley Williams solo album this week as well (not released as an album but 17 individual songs 🙄). I liked LS Dunes from the start of the year, that’s guitars. Pulp, Franz Ferdinand, Pup, Turnstile.

Hope you get back on your feet quick mate.

There's a couple there I need to catch up on. But, Hesse Kassel, Polyglots, Pulp, Sparhawk are all up there for me. Also, Lido Pimienta (not sure she's guitar enough though). And Robert Forster, the Springsteen mother load, Golomb, Ryan Davis & the Roadhouse Band, Poor Creature, Murry Hammond and many others...

Jesus mate, hope you're recovering well. How come you've needed that?!

In order of recommendation:

Frog - lofi guitar rock, consistently excellent at what they do
BCNR - they've nailed it
Jasmine.4.t - up there with one of the best debuts in a long while. Heartwarming, sad, nice
Caroline - posho art school soft lads twiddle about and create something amazing, featuring Caroline Polachek (yes really)
Friendship - baritone, great, melodic
Saul Adamczewski - nutcase from Fat White Family doing weirdo folk/spoken word with another nutcase
Dutch Interior - again a bit lofi with hooks
Heartworms - another Dan Carey record, it's good
Lily Seabird - folky lovely
Beirut - presumably you'll know them but yeah, it's lovely, really laid back
Alex G - you'll know him anyway but the first half is really good, second is worth turning off
Decius - acid house and better than the debut
Begging Dog - someone from Choir Boy doing sorta half arsed lofi tunes
Barry Can Swim - enjoyable but very mainstream
Colin Miller - solid lo-fi Elliot Smith sorta vibe

Again, first thing I've heard of some of them. The Beirut album is kind of a given, if you're a fan. I think you, me and @chunkyshanhawk53 align on Caroline. They're marvellous!
