New Music Releases Thread

All Points East yesterday.

Sound - predictably dreadful
Food and drink - not bad actually, easy to get to the bar etc. weird 5% discount for using American Express
National of Language - very good. Earnest
Jockstrap - busy. Very fun
Pixies - hits amazing, new stuff meh.
LCD - glorious, cathartic
I spent half an hour in the queue for a drink last time so glad they’ve sorted that out.

Was sat in a hotel bar and this was playing and had to shazam it wondering how I'd missed this in the 90's, can't believe it's from this year

New Fontaines record is excellent. Can hear so many influences on there. Couple of songs sound like they could have been released on Sub Pop in the early 90’s. I think they’ve also been listening to DIIV. Best song on the album has a Lana Del Rey vibe. It’s very much a leap forward creatively for them

Im obsessed with the album.

"kissing on the corner, wait for just a minute, come away with me and Sal, I promise you'll be in it"

I'm really enjoying it. Feels like a big step forward. To be honest I've found them pretty dull before this. Never had an album I can stick with all the way through. Favourite is a lovely song, best thing they've ever done imo.

Right this week's new stuff:

Magdalena Bay: synthy, poppy, reminds me of Let's Eat Grandma at times.
Gillian Welch & Daivd Rawlings: rootsy and lovely. Exceptional.
Fontaines DC: they keep evolving. This is spectacularly good, as expected.
Andrew Combs: gentle Americana. He's very good.
Kishi Bashi: one time member of Of Montreal. This takes all of the good stuff from that band and none of the bad. Really excellent.
Thee Heart Tones: very good female fronted retro soul. Worth a listen.
The Harlem Gospel Travelers: pop, soul, gospel. Great harmonies.
Orlando Weeks: really good, his solo records continue to be entertaining.
Bryce Dessner: classical pieces he's been involved in. Very good.

Album of the week: Fontaines DC just beat Kishi Bashi.

I really hated Of Montreal for some reason

The Smile announce new album, October 4th
@Arkle EOTR recommendations?

First one is go. Wish I could.but work stuff doesn't align.

Ignoring the top seven lines of artists on the website, as they're all household names, I'll start with Cornelius (Japanese vaguely post-rock but more vocal). The next three lines after him are all great but all bands recommended on here already, If Sam Morton plays, you're doing better than Green Man. Slift, obviously, Mary Lattimore, Thus Love, Palehound, Master Peace, King Hannah (but you know that), Sam Amidon, House of All, Dawn Landes, Mozart Estate, Joe Gideon, RVG, Gently Tender, Kassi Valazza, Girl and Girl (definitely), Ex-Easter Island Head, Anastasia Coope, Brown Horse (brilliant at Green Man),

Some of them anyway...

Many thanks. It’s always a great weekend
