In my defence, I was 15 when Blink 182 hit it big, there’s a lot of nostalgia there for me and they were definitely my “gateway” band into the American punk scene.

To make it worse, Blink cancelled the day before the gig and I didn’t have time to make arrangements to go to Wilco (was going to Blink with my mates, would have been doing Wilco with the wife so needed to arrange childcare etc)

The latest National album is class, much better than their earlier effort, chemical brothers brilliant and them last 2 songs on teenage fanclub are as good as anything they’ve done.

My usual weekly review of new stuff:

Sufjan Stevens: a return to the form of earlier more song based albums. Excellent! Kind of Carrie & Lowell with electronic flourishes.
A Savage: I really like this. Sort of reminds me of Parquet Courts (unsurprisingly) crossed with Adam Green.
Mary Lattimore: highly enjoyable. Ambient (ish) harp pieces essentially.
Peter Brewis: largely instrumental meaning it sounds a bit like a Field Music album without vocals. Pretty good.
Axis: Sova: prog oriented garage rock produced by Ty Segall. It's good.
The David Tattersall Group: a slightly more folkie Wave Pictures, more or less. Very, very good anyway.
Mutual Benefit: as mentioned above, a proper return to form and a thing of great beauty. Up there!
Anoushka Shankar: ambient (ish) sitar pieces. I think it counts as an EP. Pretty good.
Unschooling: scratchy, lo-fi indie rock. It's okay.
Vanishing Twin: more of their Stereolab adjacent arthouse indiepop. Enjoyable!
Bcmc: ambient Americana. Four long tracks of instrumental guitar pieces, which are largely lovely.
Teeth of the Sea: post-rock adjacent indie rock. Very good, as expected.

Album of the week: Sufjan probably shades it.

Pretty good week there - Margo, Boygenius and the Mary Wallopers are definite listens, then I might unleash my inner teenage girl and give Creeper a spin. Might give the Menzingers a go but I find them a bit overhyped.

I think the boygenius EP is tracks that didn't make the album (it's called The Rest). Likewise, Margo's album, Strays II, is described as a companion piece for Strays. Looking forward to both The Mary Wallopers and CMAT but there are several others I'll listen to.

Sufjan and vanishing twin albums are excellent.Got a bit bored with the axis.sova one though.

The Mary Wallopers will be the first new album that I have listened to for a while.

It's companion week apparently - Geese also have an EP out tomorrow. 4D Country to go with their 3D Country from June.
