didnt know he had an album coming out so this is a pleasant surprise. Quite a poignant message he's written on his fb page re Tom Verlaine( one of tracks on new album mentions him )

There’s also a solo album from Supersuckers guitarist Metal Marty. Despite his name, from the odd song I’ve heard so far it’s a Southern Rock album not a metal one.

I was very pleasantly surprised to see a Ween cover on the new Sunny War album!

I'm a Graham Coxon fan, but what I'd heard of The WAEVE (4 songs) just hadn't clicked with me until last night. Streamed the full album tonight and it's good but likely to take a few plays to get properly in to. Hadn't realised until recently that Rose Elinor Dougall was in The Pipettes.
 
My weekly review of new stuff:

Bob Stanley/Pete Wiggs Present Winter of Discontent: the Stanley/Wiggs compilations are generally excellent and this is no exception. 24 tracks of lo-fi post-punkish stuff from the early 80s. Some recognisable names (The Mekons, Blue Orchids, The Raincoats, The Fall) but mostly new to me.
M(h)aol: Irish feminist post-punks' debut album 7 years after their first single. It's a spiky, abrasive and forthright album.
Young Fathers: Excellent! Probably their best yet. If I have a complaint, it's that it's not long enough. An early album of the year contender.
The Men: their usual punky garage rock. It's very enjoyable in spite of not being their best album.
The WAEVE: I'm enjoying this on first listen and suspect it has enough depth to improve as it is listened to more.
The Go! Team: Fun with a capital F. It's The Go! Team as they usually are, big sound, enjoyable.
Acid Arab: does what it says on the tin and does what they've done on previous releases. A merging of Middle Eastern and western dance music basically.
Robert Forster: he's a masterful songwriter. He somehow wrote songs before his wife's cancer diagnosis that seem to be about her cancer diagnosis. It's a lovely record.
Tropical Fuck Storm: a covers album but, given my lack of familiarity with the songs, it could be original material. Good.
Italia 90: a strong debut. I guess they fit under post-punk if you want to give them a genre. Some very good songs. Seem likely to be excellent live.
Sunny War: a folk/blues hybrid. Very strong.

Album of the week: Young Fathers, basically.
