New Music Releases Thread

There are new albums tomorrow from Bruce Springsteen, Christine and the Queens Presents Redcar, FaltyDL, Gold Panda, Hyd, Jimmy Edgar, LS Dunes, Louis Tomlinson, Nas & Hit Boy, Heather Trost, Plaid, Jeb Loy Nichols, The Cool Greenhouse, Breanna Barbara, Macie Stewart, Sarathy Korwar, Honey Harper, Fenella and Eliza Carthy & the Restitution.
Carthy for me. Not sure about the rest - most, I don't know, and I'm a huge Springsteen fan but not too bothered about a covers album tbh

Enjoyed the new Carla Dal Forno album Come Around. Reminded me of Young Marble Giants. I'd listened to her other stuff a while back as had saw comparisons to Broadcast, but it didn't do much for me. Expectations might have been too high. Might give it another go now.
Will be listening to the new Fenella album tomorrow, but I read there is only one song with vocals. Still it should be good. I was very late appreciating Jane Weaver, but think she's great now.

Quite a good week for new stuff. My review from the shed:

Personal Trainer: New Music Releases Thread, please welcome your new favourite band. High on Pavementisms and thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyable. I believe they are Dutch, think this is their second album.
Heather Trost: a weird mix of hippyism and electronica. There are similarities to Jane Weaver, although vocally she's very different.
Plaid: quirky electronica that's not really aimed at the dance floor or the flotation tank. They're veterans at this and it's very pleasing.
Office Culture: laidback, slightly easy listening-ish guitar pop. Not sure I can think of comparisions, listened to it on the strength of a 9/10 review in Uncut.
The Mary Wallopers: I think this has been out for a couple of weeks. Irish folk made by two brothers and a mate. They're thoroughly enjoyable, a pit early Pogues-y.
The Welcome Wagon: Sufjan's Christian mates. I think this is their fourth album and first in a while. As always, there are influences of Sufjan. Really, really good.
Bruce Springsteen: as is much publicised, soul classics done fairly faithfully but with obvious Bruce voice. It's an interesting, and indeed fun, listen but I'd prefer original material. Clearly dear to his heart.
Macie Stewart: fragile, lo-fi indie-folk. Very pretty.
Honey Harper: full on Americana really. Some very strong songs, a good listen.
Christine and the Queens Present Redcar: (or whatever they're now called). Musically, a continuation from earlier releases, sophisticated French language pop. Very good TBH.
Fenella: Jane Weaver's primarily instrumental band project. Vocals on the last track only. It's a good listen.
Sarathy Korwar: very very good indeed. A mix of jazz, hip hop and southern Asian influences. He's a proper talent.
Breanna Barbara: retro Bluesy rock, sound like she should be on Third Man records. Enjoyable.
The Cool Greenhouse: more spoken word over clackety slightly Fall sounding guitar music. Reminiscent of Talking Heads or LCD Soundsystem at times. Pretty much marvellous!
Jeb Loy Nichols: subtle, very subtle. Engaging indie-ish songs with a range of influences from across the world. A very lovely album.
Sam Prekop: from the less rocky, jazzier side of post-rock, this is a warm and engaging album (four longish tracks).
Tropical Gothclub: Dean Fertita's solo project. Quite rocky, as you'd expect, good songs. A bit Jack White.
Thus Love: indie rockers from Vermont, Rough Trade shops love them. Sound a little Suedesque to me. Interesting.
Larkin Poe: more of the same from them (female fronted blues rock). It's good but not life changing.

Album of the week: I think The Cool Greenhouse just edge out Personal Trainer and The Welcome Wagon

listening to the latest album from Nas.
King’s disease III

Good stuff, if you like hip hop…none of this mumble shite

Judging from metacritic, this is probably the last week of the year in which there's a relatively full list of new release. Tomorrow, we have albums from Brockhampton, Caitlin Rose, Honey Dijon, isomonstrosity, Neil Young & Crazyhorse, Nickelback, Richard Dawson, Royksopp, Weyes Blood, Billy Strings, Franz Nicolay, Anna Mieke, James Johnston & Steve Gullick, Helen Ganya, Jemma Freeman & the Cosmic Something, The Prescriptions, Pole, Morton Valence and Acid Klaus.

Kill Rock Stars released a Cribs demo tape from 2001 a couple of weeks ago (mine just arrived yesterday). Thoroughly enjoying it - much rougher around the edges than their "proper" studio stuff - you can definitely hear the Nirvana/Sonic Youth influences. On Spotify etc.

Just out of Richard dawsons screening at star and shadow, its interesting like I’d probably need to sit on it for a while and give the full album a listen didnt immediately strike me as his best work but very funny in his Q&A

He’s on the Adam Buxton podcast this week, comes across really well (as I thought he might do, tbh). There’s a nice little bit where he talks about working with a lad from Sunderland and picking up his accent.

There's an expanded digital edition of the Panda Bear & Sonic Boom album Reset out today as well as physical copies of the standard album. The expanded edition adds instrumentals of all the 9 songs plus remixes of 3 songs from the album. Enjoyed the standard album a lot more than when I heard it a few months back.
