New Music Releases Thread

Ten Spotify listens to the new AM album and I’m still struggling to differentiate between the songs. At a similar stage Id already ordered their Confessions Of An Interstellar Cabaret Crooner effort on vinyl. This one seems to gan nowhere. Latest listens nee different from the first. For that reason I’m gonna lend Someone else me ears.

I think Dry Cleaning's Stumpwork is very good in the main. Just a couple of songs haven't clicked with me yet. Has to be one of the best album covers in recent times too.
Bis album official release date is now 18/11.

It's actually turned out to be a decent week for new releases. My quick review:

Skinshape: chilled out, largely, but not entirely, instrumental. Very relaxing!
Abraxas: this has a really good Tex Mex vibe. Reminds me of Xuxa or Calexico. Really good!
Dan Mangan: good songs. Quite introspective. Enjoyable.
Junior Boys: not as song based as previous releases. Verging on ambient electronica.
Aoife Nessa Frances: sort of otherworldly. It's a very good album, as her previous couple were.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard: the final one of their three new albums. This is good. I think it's the album they were working on and shelved before lockdown then came back to.
Wand: live albums tend to be a bit of a rareity nowadays so this is something of a novelty. They're a very good band.
Luke Haines & Peter Buck: a double album, which doesn't feel as sprawling as it could be. Haines is on fine form. Excellent!
Drugdealer: good songs, has a real 70s vibe to it.
One Leg One Eye: the solo project of one of the brothers in Lankum. This is high quality drone folk. Very good indeed!
Martha: as mentioned above, they really are a very good band. Hook laden indie rock, having interchangeable singers and songwriters is a real boon!
Benjamin Clementine: After the weirdness of his second album, this is a proper return to the form that won him a Mercury for his debut. Exceptional!
Sylvie: an extended version (two extra tracks) of an EP released last year. They're 70s folk rock influenced. The excellent Marina Allen does vocals on a couple of tracks.
The Leaf Library: a compilation of non-album tracks. Very good, they still have their new Stereolab vibe going on.
Hermanos Gutierrez: more Tex Mex type stuff. Chilled out instrumental tracks. The mid point between Skinshape and Abraxas, if that makes sense.

Album of the week: I think it just about gets shaded by Benjamin Clementine but Abraxas, Aoife Nessa Frances, Haines/Buck, One Leg One Eye and Martha are all close.

They're very good. I think Today & Tomorrow (the psych rock one) is probably the best of them on early listening.
I missed the new TVAM record. It’s decent but not as good as the debut

Missed it as well.

Rayland Baxter the only one getting me excited there. PJ Harvey should be interesting, I’ve always struggled to get into First Aid Kit but I’ll probably give it a go.

Yeah, I thought you might like First Aid Kit as they're essentially an Americana band. The PJ Harvey thing is a triple album I believe. 59 tracks from across her career.

Did you go to Caroline?
I did, they were very good. That was the first time I've been in the upstairs at Earth. It's a nice venue, thought the sound was very good. Quite like sitting on the steps.

I do think every Caroline song would benefit from about 2 minutes less of the messing around for the sake of it like. :) It dragged a bit live.

New Avril single released at 3pm today. Been looking forward to it all day. Doesn't disappoint, love the song and video!
